Former beauty queen Priyanka Chopra needed some fashionable help from Madhur Bhandarkar to salvage her career. Barring Fashion, her last hit was Don in 2007.
It all started with the over-hyped Love Story 2050 marking the B-town debut of her real life beau Harman Baweja. The poor thing coloured her hair red but that failed to create sparks at the BO.
Next in line was the dated God Tussi Great Ho, the desi version of Jim Carrey's Bruce Almightly. The film starring Salman Khan and Amitabh Bachchan did not enjoy the success its song Tujhe Aksa Beach did and was washed out by Bachna Ae Haseeno starring newbie Ranbir Kapoor. Action thriller Chamku released a week later but the Bobby-Priyanka action thriller proved too boring to keep audiences glued to their seats. A nervous Piggy put up a brave front but her hopes were pinned to the mega-budget fantasy epic Drona where she played sexy and sophisticated bodyguard Sonia to Abishek's super-hero Drona. Priyanka may have been the true star of the film but all her hopes sank with the film.
It is true that all good things happen at the same time. People loved Priyanka as the show stopper for designers Narendra Kumar Ahmed and Vikram Phadnis. She looked every inch the supermodel she portrays in Fashion. Then the highly anticipated Fashion arrived as the answer to her prayers and the hottie heaved a sigh of relief. Not only has her powerful performance been lauded as a career best but for the first time, a female centric film is running to packed audiences everywhere. All shows, even morning ones are houseful and people are lining up to buy tickets. Critics have also been kind to the film. And now as a year end gift, she has Dharma Productions' Dostana alongside John Abraham and Abhishek Bachchan. Priyanka looks dazzling in her shimmering golden costume and the music is scorching TV and radio channels alike. People cannot wait to see the film.
What's more Priyanka has Vishal Bhardwaj's Kaminay co-starring Shahid Kapoor, Ashutosh Gowariker's rom-com What's Your Rashee? with Harman Baweja and Feroz Khan's remake of Qurbani where the petite actress will fill in the voluptuous Zeenat Aman's shoes once again after Don.
She also has her hands full with top-of-the-line endorsements like Nokia, Hero Honda, Tag Heuer and Sunsilk and the gorgeous diva looks down upon mere mortals from various hoardings across the city.
In fact Madhur Bhandarkar had told us that Fashion is the best film of Priyanka's career and all her flops will be forgotten once people see her mind-blowing performance in Fashion. Thankfully, his prophecy has come true.
