Together again!

We've heard that Karan Johar's next film will have buddies Kajol and Shah Rukh playing the lead pair

Sandipan Dalal

Awesome twosome: Kajol and Shah Rukh Khan

If sources are to be believed Karan Johar is hellbent on casting good friend Kajol as the leading lady in his forthcoming film. The film's storyline is not yet known other than the fact that the prolific filmmaker has been making frequent trips to New York and Los Angeles for research and scouting location. However, Kajol is yet to sign on the dotted line. A source close to the director says, "If all goes well Kajol will have much more than the routine blink-and-a-miss presence in a song sequence. Karan is definitely considering Kajol for his next film."

After having shot for Kunal Kohli's Fanaa, Kajol is gradually, coming out of her self-imposed exile. The actress has grand plans for hubby Ajay Devgan's directorial debut. According to another source close to the actress, "Kajol is definitely looking at doing more films now. Her focus is gradually shifting back to work. In fact, she is responsible for quite a few things in Ajay's film. If she has the time she might just pick up Karan's film." Interestingly, Karan has been asking Kajol to consider a full-fledged comeback for the last two years.

We have little doubt that Shah Rukh Khan will also be a part of the film. Incidentally, the film will have a strong social message for which the filmmaker has already made trips to a few NYC NGOs. However, Karan is yet to finish his script and finalise the dates. As for location, the film will most likely be shot in New York.

Karan Johar was unavailable for comment.

That's the spirit!

Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan do not exchange any dialogue in Ravi Chopra's Bhoothnath, since Big B plays an eerie ghost who SRK can't see

Sandipan Dalal

SRK with Ravi Chopra on the sets of Bhoothnath

Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan don't exchange any dialogue in Ravi Chopra's Bhoothnath. The duo, who are not known to be overly fond of each other, hardly share any screen space too, except for the climax sequence in the supernatural film. If sources are to be believed, it may be a conscious move on the part of the production house to avoid any friction between the actors.

Considering that Big B plays a ghost in the film, it has been relatively easy for the makers to tweak the screenplay. Apparently, mortal beings cannot see Bhoothnath (Bachchan) and so SRK will conveniently see through his fellow colleague in the film. Director Vivek Sharma explains, "We don't have elaborate sequences where Mr Bachchan and Shah Rukh strike up a conversation. Mr Bachchan plays a ghost and most human beings can't see him, except for the child protagonist."

The duo is yet to shoot their respective sequences. Apparently, Bachchan has put his foot down and told the production house that he will face the camera only after son Abhishek's wedding. Earlier too, the actor had delayed the schedule due to mother Teji Bachchan's ill-health. However, producer Ravi Chopra is optimistic about completing the film by June-July. "Mr Bachchan will not shoot for a month as he is busy with the wedding preparations. But that won't cause any delay. We will shoot in back-to-back schedules, in June and July," Ravi Chopra says.

The plot has SRK and Juhi Chawla playing a couple who move to Goa with their son. The kid befriends an eerie spirit, Bhoothnath. An expensive set will be erected at Film City where the next schedule will be shot.

Shah Rukh Khans Charm Floors Ashley Judd!

By: Abid

Ashley Judd, the star of Hollywood films like 'Kiss The Girls' and 'Double Jeopardy' , had a brief interaction with Shah Rukh Khan and was suitably impressed . She is said to have been 'floored by his charm and grace'. Naturally ! When Shah Rukh Khan decides to lay out his charm , not many come away unscathed!

Unfortunately he's always seemed reluctant to make a bid for Hollywood , but we just wish if he could persuade Ashley to do a Hindi film with him , or even an item number , we would consider that his legendary charm was put to good use.

Shakira to work in Bollywood

Latin sensation Shakira who was in Mumbai talked about the city, Bollywood, Shahrukh Khan and her proposed song in Farah Khan's 'Om Shanti Om'!

The oomph singer wished she could spend some more time in India as she wanted to see a lot of places. She also knows that her fans in other cities were dejected that she performed in Mumbai only. But she is sure 'there will be a next time'.

She feels Shahrukh Khan 'is cool.' She has seen one of his films as well. She has been approached by Bollywood and Shakira feels good about it though she does not know 'if it will work out.'

In fact the singer was considerate enough to invite Farah Khan who had recently choreographed a number for her.

A stunned Farah says: "I was zapped when I got a call from Shakira's manager informing me that she had reserved two tickets for me for her concert on Sunday. Shirish (Kunder) and I went for her show and we had a blast."

Farah also admitted that the Latin sensation may do a number for Om Shanti Om.

"We are still working on it. Shakira's traveling for the next six months and extremely busy, and I have to complete and release OSO by November 2007. Let's wait and watch," she says, mysteriously.

We too are waiting to see Shakira sizzle on Indian screen! - SAMPURN

Advertisement and the Endorsements

Enkyaar, Bollywood Trade News Network

While today's film stars in proportion to the hit and flop to their oeuvre get the brand endorsements there illustrious and better accomplished peers, but for an Amitabh Bachchan were deprived of the benefits of this kind especially of the male variety. The female stars were given endorsements but there endorsements were mostly for cosmetics, more so with toiletry and the ultimate triumph for a heroine in those days to become a brand ambassador for Lux Soap. The stars of the by-gone era must be despairing at the thought of not being able to have this additional income.

Were one however to reconstruct a scenario of the advertisements with the stars of the by-gone era, it would be interesting to observe that they would be able to
register immediately with a brand as the kind of image that they cultivated and nurtured for themselves continued without any deconstruction down the years.

While the stars of the present times are not able to endorse cigarette, what better brand ambassadors than a Nadira and a Rehman or a K.N. Singh for a variety of cigarette and the tag line could have been smoke the cigarette in this fashion and you could rule the world. And what better brand ambassador as a Hero than a Dev Anand humming the lines, ' Main Zindagi Ka Saath Nibhata Chala Gay, Har phikr ko Dhuen me udata chala gaya… so smoke the cigarette and let the tensions evaporate. In fact Outlook magazine had did a feature on the smokers, but this tag line left their attention as well.

How unconvincing a Shah Rukh Khan looks in the Sona Chandi Chawanprash ad, and Sunny Deol seems surreal, but a Dara Singh if he was given an opportunity to do it, would certainly have become a brand ambassador of Sona Chandi Chawanprash for all times to come.

Car brand ambassadors keep on changing but who could have been the better family than the Kishore Kumar family, with a Madhubala thrown in, the Santro wale. The sunshine that the Ganguly family (Ashok Kumar, Kishore Kumar and Anup Kumar) had brought on to the silver screen in CHALTI KA NAAM GADI, would have been a perfect casting coup as they could have been a one stop shop for all that a car company comprises, right from sales to after sales, the role being exhibited successfully by the three musketeers. Even the tyre companies could have been roped in, with the scene of tyre replacement scene from Chati Ka Naam Gadi running in the background, and an MRF would not need a Sachin or a Lara to endorse their products. The break down companies could have had been laughing all the way to the bank humming …Ek Ladki Bheegi Bhagi Si,.. More so for Mumbai, because in the monsoons lovers find themselves stuck up in the rain inside their vehicles. May be, the advertisement fraternity, as a tribute to these musketeers should carve out an advertisement by morphing the image to see for them the impact that this would generate. Are the copywriters listening?

Another brand ambassador for the motor world industry would have been a Feroze Khan who had brought the motor sports on to the silver screen for the first time and the reckless manner in which he had destroyed the Mercedes in Qurbani should have egged on the copy writers to challenge him to break a car, with the punch line, it can be turned to pieces in a film, but in the real life Mercedes is unbreakable.

Dilip Kumar was the tragedy king and along with Rajendra Kumar had emerged as the face that epitomized tragedy and pain. They could have been the best brand ambassadors for all the medicine companies, which are finding it difficult to have an icon, which would immediately register an image about their product. And they could also have been the predecessors of UP mein Dum hain campaign currently done by AB, as most of the roles that they played had a feel which was pulsating with vibrancy of UP and Bihar, and they could also speak the local language with consummate ease.

Kingfisher is still searching for a brand ambassador from the film fraternity to market its products in perpetuity, but the success is eluding. Had Vijay Mallya had been around the time when Johny Walker and Keshto Mukerjee lived, then there would not have been need to search a better brand ambassador, what with the mention only of both of them conveyed the image of a person in bliss after consuming liquor, it is altogether a different matter that both of them did not consume a drop of alcohol in their real life.

The new telecom companies that are entering the market are finding it difficult to get a toehold as the bigger companies have lifted the major stars. But what if Bhagwan and Sulochana were to be around, then the signature tune could have been, … Mere piya gaya Rangoon, wahan se (name of the company) ke phone se kia hai fune.. And a Sunil Dutt would have been the perfect brand ambassador for the romantics to market a brand of phone, as he had sung a whole song… Jalte Hain Jiske Liye… to Nutan on phone.

Alas all the stars walked into the sunset at the times when multi nations were breaking their heads but could not succeed to enter the country, had they been able to do so, most of the stars of the yester years would not have died in pecuniary.

'MY MIDDLE CLASS

Shah Rukh Khan on life after Kaun Banega Crorepati

Princy Jain
Print Edition of HT

Hosting a television show Was great fun. I know it sound s clichd but that's the truth. Professionally it's been very smooth. I didn't even realise that the first season had come to an end.

Of course, it's been tiring, but that's the difference between films and television. The show is based on a set format. So the biggest challenge is to innovate daily within that format. Role reversal Besides getting the money and answers right, the person on the hot seat has one other thing on his mind. He says to himself, "I don't want to make a fool of myself." When I came as a contestant, I was conscious of that too. Also, I was very curious about how it all works. Now, as a host I know it all.

But I'm sure if I ever come as a guest again, I'll still be bothered about not making a fool of myself. Us and them It's strange, but I find myself much closer to reality now. From dawn to sunset, my day is spent in fulfilling creative dreams. No matter how much I've always maintained and spoken about my middle class upbringing, somewhere the touch with the reality was waning.

Being at the studios for years, everything is larger than life for me. From films to my roles, to the hoardings on the road, everything is getting bigger by the day. As the host of Kaun Banega Crorepati, I met normal people and realised what it's like to lead a life, where means are an end in themselves. And some values don't change. For instance, no matter how big or small a person, everyone loves their children to death, everyone has a lucky day and everyone believes in God. Madame Tussauds Yes. Tussauds feels awesome as one would feel after winning two crores. It's momentous since it reflects the significance and reach of the Indian entertainment industry.

On a personal note, if this had happened six years ago, it would have been the ultimate achievement for me. But today, after having come closer to reality, it's been humbling, which makes it special.
