| Tanushree Dutta's career in the glamour world began when she participated in the Miss India contest in 2004. She proved her mettle by winning the coveted crown. While she was still the reigning Miss India, she was offered her first film namely Chocolate and subsequently Aashiq Banaya Aapne. Here is Tanushree on everything from her upcoming films to her favorite ring tones in an exclusive interview to IndiaFM. Did you always want to become an actress? No, not really. When I was a child, I started having ambitions about the glamour world. And I always thought about becoming a Miss India. It was my dream. I wanted to become a fashion model, go to Paris, and do FTV! Becoming an actress was not something that crossed my mind ever. When I was taking part in Miss India, the probability and the possibility of me winning the crown came forth. A lot of people who have won Miss India before have joined Bollywood. In fact, not only the winners, but contestants as well have joined acting in some way or the other. That is when I started considering the possibility of taking up acting as a career. Emran's reputation of being the best kisser in Bollywood precedes him. So did you ever think of that aspect before signing the film? I had heard that. I was looking forward to working with him. I'm sure whatever is said about him being the best kisser holds true. At the same time, he is a thorough professional. He would always make me feel comfortable, no matter which scene we were performing. Did you go through any formal training in acting before signing this movie? No I didn't. I started shooting for Chocolate in October, last year. I was still the reigning Miss India. There were a lot of other things that were happening in my life. I had my prior Miss India and other fashion commitments. I really did not have enough time to 'switch over' to acting in the slow and gradual way. One fine day, I found myself signing the film and within 15 days I was shooting for the film. I had a 15 day gap to finish all my prior commitments. Miss India was my priority at that point of time. After Chocolate, immediately I started shooting for Aashiq Banaya Aapne. So there was no possibility of me going through any course as such. But I think I have learnt a lot from Chocolate because we shot for it for many days. The process of finishing that film was an acting course by itself. And of course, I had a brilliant director who made sure that he shaped up the role the way he had visualized. In Aashiq Banaya Aapne, I was a little more seasoned and involved with my character. I myself did a lot of homework for the character. Aditya's vision was very clear. So would you call yourself a director's actress? Yes, I would. I prefer not to take charge in my own hands. I am still very new and I will remain new for quite some time. It will take some time for me to get the hang of things. Tell us a about your role in Chocolate. Chocolate is a film that is way out of the ordinary. Without sounding clichd! It is something that is actually different. It has a very different kind of a star cast. Our team calls is the Ensemble cast because every character has been cast according to what he actually looks like in real life. My role is that of a ruthlessly ambitious girl. She probably belongs to a small town in India and has gone abroad to make a living. She is determined to make it big. Basically she is a temptress, having a dubious past. She's smart, suave, stylish and also very manipulative. At the same time, there is an innocent look about her which is so deceptive. It's got a lot of shades. That gave me enough of an opportunity to showcase myself as an actress. Chocolate has you working with experienced actors. What was it like? My experience of working in Chocolate was very good because that was the time I learnt a lot, working with seasoned actors like Anil Kapoor, Irfan Khan, Arshad Warsi, Sunil Shetty and Emraan. Each one of them had something to teach me. By merely observing them, and watching their patterns of working, I learnt so much. I've always been inspired by Anil Kapoor's way of working. Everyone has been really co-operative and they have really pampered me. They made sure that I was comfortable because being a debutante actress, I was nave and scared initially. Describe your first shot ever My first shot ever was when I had started shooting for Chocolate. In the scene, all the other actors are playing different musical instruments and I go up to Irfan and to tell him something along the lines of 'lets compose it'. I got it right in the first take itself. Any memorable incidents on the sets of Chocolate? We were shooting for a song called Bheega Bheega December. It now happens to be one of my favorite dongs from the movie. The whole song is picturized on me getting wet under a waterfall. We shot for it for three days. On the third day, I had very high fever. On the last day, I was shooting with 104 degrees fever. They kept on pouring cold water on me because their heating system was not working. I will never forget that day. When I finally saw the song, I felt that it was worth it. I can go through it again to get a product like that. Which is your favorite ringtone? What's playing on your cell phone right now? My ringtone currently is in a confused state. For 15 days in a month it is the title track of Aashiq Banaya Aapne and for the other 15 days it is Halka Halka Sa Nasha from Chocolate. I am torn apart between loyalties! If I play the ringtone of one movie, the other movie unit thinks I'm not loyal and vice versa! Tell the readers why they should watch Chocolate. We all love eating Chocolate. Now you get to see Chocolate. It's mysterious. There is a lot more to it than what you can see and what we have done. To find out what is the mystery in Chocolate and what is Chocolate, you must go and see the film. Where do you see yourself 5 years from now? I would want to see myself as a better actress than what I am today. I hope by then I am settled in the industry. I just want to do good films and I want people to like my performances.
