Bhajji with me in the house? That'll be fun: Andrew Symonds
Cricketer Andrew Symonds reveals he wants to have a blast and befriend inmates in Bigg Boss in a chat with Neha Maheshwri
Often mistaken as a loose cannon on field, Andrew Symonds is every bit a gentleman off it. His replies may sound rehearsed and staccato but sitting across the star cricketer who has been talked about his controversy more than his polished cricketing skills, you can feel the air of genuineness. He has been coming to India to entertain the cricket lovers all these years but this time the purpose is different. He will participate in the reality show, Bigg Boss 5.
You are a loner so how do you plan to mix with complete strangers inside the house? I like having fun and I will have it by myself and with others too. I don't have any opinions or pre-conceived ideas about any contestant, which I think is the clearest way for me to approach this challenge.
How does an all-rounder on the cricket field like you expect to bat off the competition, field the tasks and bowl the maidens over? (Chuckles) I am going to play it as I see it. I don't have any plans or tactics. The only thing I want to do is to enjoy myself and have fun. That's the idea I have sort of put together.
Fun amidst constant fights and bickering? I have heard that there are many conflicts inside the house. I understand that there's a pool inside the house and no one's been inside it which I find strange. I enjoy water and will teach people to play games with others in the pool. The pool is a good place to cool down and have arguments.
Apart from swimming and enjoying, you are expected to do a lot of other things like dancing and singing. Are you game for the same? I dance like the tin man from the movie, Wizards of Oz. My dancing is terrible. I have no rhythm and my singing is terrible as well. But isn't it part of the fun? They will laugh at me while I am at it.
What does it take for you to get angry? I get frustrated when people don't listen to me and when people don't mind their manners. There is a difference between 'Please may I drink water?' and 'Can I have water?' Little things bring out your manners.
Indians expect you to rake up the Harbhajan Singh slap controversy on the show. What can be expected of you or will it be a fresh start? No, it's all in the past. I have sat with Bhajji and had a conversation. We talked about it man-to-man and it's been dealt with. We send each other messages from time to time. During the IPL we sat down and drank together and now are good friends again. There are no problems any more.
What if he was one of the inmates? Well, that would be good as we would work like allies. It would be a good arrangement.
How will the show help you especially with IPL round the corner? I am excited about learning the language and being with Indians. There obviously will be frustrating moments as one is confined within the walls of the house. I would probably learn about self control and controlling my emotions.
Are you open to more shows in India? I will see how it goes in this one first. I haven't made it out of this one yet. But I have got an open mind to it all.
Do you know about the hosts - Salman Khan and Sanjay Dutt? I know all of them. I realise that the Bollywood actors and actresses are a big deal here and they add to the spectacle to the show.
Do you know Sunny Leone is one of the housemates? Yes. I have seen her in the industry. I am not offended by the choice of her living. I will get to know her. I hope she is a fun girl and we can enjoy staying together.
Hotheaded Pooja Missra will re-enter the house as Andrew Symonds's translator
