i did have favourites initially, but watching seema's strange behaviour with ashmit made me backtrack a bit.

this season of BB4 is fast becoming the pits. i liked the original format where we got to see inmates struggling to cope with a hand-to-mouth existence while being locked up in a house that doubles up as an asylum; but more than that, i was curious to gauge how channels subtly mould reality shows and use participants as pawns in the TRP game.

i think the reason many people are disappointed with BB4 is not because of the participants, but the channel itself. i remember when season 1 was aired on sony, the nature of the show was very different. ever since colors got the broadcast rights, the bigg boss format has just gone downhill.

colors has absolutely resorted to making bigg boss an indian melodrama, and that's why people are getting fed up. if it was melodrama people wanted, then why would they be watching a so-called reality show? also, colors and the BB4 producers are making absolutely no effort as far as introducing creativity and fresh life in bigg boss is concerned. they seem to have run out of ideas.

after all, how many people would really want to see people getting married and decking up with oodles of make up and rs. 3 lakh lehengas and ghagra cholis? how many people want to stomach planned product placements that are shoved in their faces constantly (read: vodafone and that garnier poster in the BB4 bathroom area), etc.?

it hardly seems to me that these inmates have to live in hell. if anything, their stay in the BB4 house has its own share of perks! whatever happened to the notion of having people struggle to cope with a mundane and a less-than-normal existence? the one thing they have to live without is gadgets and newspapers, but nevertheless all other privileges are very much in place.

if the producers want to have any hope of salvaging this show, i think they need to rethink the channel they have chosen. in my opinion the fault is not with the inmates, it's with the stale tactics colors is using to draw in viewers. they need to know that most people are not happy with the whole marriage hoopla. a majority already know it's fake- even today's bombay times has spilled the beans on ali-sara. it's all so pointless.
