One doesn't know the level of scripting in the show. I think at best they get guidelines and possibly image addressals but I highly doubt that it goes to the point of what dialogues to use. In that respect, "haathi" or "chammak challo" may not be scripted at all.
My opinion is divided in name-calling of obese people. I understand it can be rude, however, at the same time, someone who is clearly obese, without medical reasons, is just opening him/herself to being addressed that way. It is also natural to be slot in labels especially in the desi context. That is different from fat-shaming which is done to the fat person's face.
In the context of Elli, not every girl reacts that way. I certainly would not pack my bags and leave because some loser commented on my body and used inappropriate language. Again, in our cultural context, women are blamed for "provoking" regardless of the truth. So, no! Elli also made a revealing comment on being treated differently because she is a foreign woman. This is 100% true and I'm glad Colors, scripted or otherwise, chose to air it. The only regretful thing is that Armaan got away quite lightly. The women of the house (except Gauhar) should be ashamed of themselves for choosing to ignore that only because they think Armaan is a strong player and should not be meddled with.
Sorry for the longish post. 😳
