Mandana tried speaking to him, but he dint give a ear to what she was saying. Later when rochelle suggested him to apologize, then too he was not interested. And when he was apologizing..he used phrase like "I respect women" if he really did, he would have been the first one to apologize, as soon as he came out of the activity room.

I think foreigners aka firangis do get special treatment in BB some of the time. So if someone got pissed off about it, I don't see how it's racist.

And to those who say Indians would be crying about it, if it happened in the west. Hello, I'm yet to meet a foreigner who doesn't do the head shake and Appu accent just on the basis of your colour. Personally, I don't even care about it.

But why such a hoohaa about the word firangi?

Yes. Its just like you Indian, you bangali, you marathi. He is also politcally incorrect as the word was for people with European descent; she is Persian but he wouldnt know this since he clearly never went to school.
Besides coming to your other point Desi people are often the biggest racists in my opinion. They discriminate based on color, creed, caste, even the type of locality one lives in. So enough said

Here people exaggerate things a lot.. he taunted her but it was not a racist comment.. he is over smart, irritating drama queen, attention seeker everything but calling firnagi cannot label him as racist..

I'm sorry for your experiences with some desis. I find Britishers really racist actually like they discriminate on the basis of post code, class, upbringing, colour, accent.

I have been around many many people who we can term "foreigners". And over all found them to be very humble, down to earth and straight forward. Yes there are few bad apples like everywhere mostly ignorants but its not as bad as you think it is. Had this situation happened on Big Brother. This would be prime time news on every ghisa pita channel. Effigies will be burnt by people on the street. It would be discussed in parliment. Their PM will be apologising to ours.

I still find it pretty innocuous. So our PM should apologize now because sadak chaanp Suyash who has the perfect qualifications to be a BB contestant btw, called someone a firangi? I'd rather the firangi was sent home with full state honours than have my PM do any such thing.

Racism in the west is calling black people monkeys and ni**ers. In BB, Shilpa Shetty was asked to pick chicken bones from a toilet with her teeth and only then a lot of hoopla was made about racism.

Indians are commonly referred to as brown people. So what, we're brown, nothing wrong with that.

Likewise, foreigners are called firangi in India.
