I think this thread is the perfect example of why our TV sucks and producers and writers take us for a ride. Basically it is saying, suck it because you cannot help it. This is why every TV soap extends for ages and degrades. Because people do not stop watching it even though they keep on complaining.
Thing is, we don't have to take it. TRP is consumer driven. In Western countries, customers are king. They know their power and raise their voice and stop watching as soon as show loses quality. Many good shows lost TRPs and immediately stopped. As a result they get amazing quality TV shows like True Detective, etc. That is the power of the consumer. Compare this with our mindless drama
I will take an example. Bade Acche lagte hai started with an awesome story-line, mature cast, good acting and plot. However, after a few episodes, when the story should have ended, they dragged it and decided to add stupid twists and plots and characters. What happened? The same public instead of stopping, kept on watching it. Somehow the fans felt they owed the serial when it should be the other way around. As a result, a show which could have gone down in history as a classic, became so bad that people don't even remember it properly.
No, we don't have to keep quiet if a show is taking us for a ride. We as consumers have a right for good, decent entertainment. Our watching brings the TV shows money through ad revenues. If we were getting something great, we don't have to settle for something just ok. We can demand the same great quality or complain and stop watching. That is the right of the consumer.
