it is same like make wishing after seeing shooting star or with Eyelashe hair... they made wish because it was white owl ... Rare and considered as good sign

india has so many cultures ...she comes from hill side ... they had their own set of beliefs .... owl is considered as good sign ... because India had so much farming and rats are big problem so seeing owl is considered good ... as owl loves to eat rats mostly.... maybe at their place they use to make wishes after seeing owl... so let's give benefit of doubt...

but Rahul question is epic... is owl fly? lol
