@history_geek :
Thank you for the links provided. Very informative.
History always intrigues us especially when its about bravery and patriotism. The current episodes hav been very touching and invokes a sense of pride that Rajputs are indeed great sons of our soil.

The story of Maharana Pratap is so interesting.

Abhay, a request again. Please post these on Sony TV and wherever possible. Also pl tweet this link. I am not on these, else would have done these.
Let people know the truth. The intensity of the war and the spirit cannot be captured fully in these shows. And the stories of the heroes are going to be compromised am sure. But each of these heroes deserve a salute. So please post, tweet and whatever please, if not a hassle.
I also request other friends here to do the same if possible.

Thanks.

Thank you so much Abhay for this post...was going thru range of emotions when going thru the details, foremost being rage...was aghast at the brutalities committed by the mughals...my heart went out to the rajputs and rajputanis of mewar who preferred fighting/ comitting jauhar to surrender in front of mughals...salutes to them...am practically speechless wen read abt fazal's take on men working in the sabbats n the way they shoved the corpses in the walls instead of stones. ...was filled with revulsion for akbar n his troops. ..

want to write more but typing from phone is a real pain...once again many thanks for this post...

Abhay, thanks a lot for putting up with this exhaustive research and presenting them in detail !

+++++++++++++

This time, I wouldn't go into commenting on the Mughal chroniclers' style of writing. Rather, I would just stick to the details in the post.

Whether Raja Jaimal Rathore died on the spot or was he wounded and alive is a debatable issue, I believe. Even the Mughal chroniclers seem to have differing views on this issue (Badayuni n Fazl), though they maintain, on the outset, that he died on the spot.

Various other sources over the domain state that his leg was injured by the shot, and that he later ordered jauhar to be performed that very night, and at early in the dawn he took part in the battle. Since he couldn't ride nor could he run, he was seated over the shoulders of Kalla Singh, and the spectators described the scene as if Lord Charbhujanathji had come incarnated. But then, this must be a from the Rajput record.

++++++++++++

The pictures are very much chilling. Looking at them, one can definitely imagine the devastating scenario. More than the Rajput men, it is the womenfolk, I believe, who were more determined, bold and very much into the cause. I am honestly falling short of words n praises for them !!

What I m wondering is what happened to all the massacred bodies of defenders and the civilians ?? Did the chivalrous Rajput men atleast receive a proper funeral? And even the bodies of the Mughal soldiers?

+++++++++++

A PROUD SALUTE TO THEM ALL - MEN N WOMEN OF CHITTORGARH ! :) :)

This particular post is by far the most emotional one in this series and it really shook me to the core.

The way the Mughal chroniclers have recorded the barbaric Ghengis Khan style warfare as something "wonderful" fills one with deep revulsion. This is the side of Akbar that few know or want to accept. Akbar the ghazi who did not hesitate to massacre 30,000 civilians in order to break the back of Rajputana resistance and spread ghizavat across a greater domain.

Akbar's victory here was so blood-soaked that he did not need to expend much effort elsewhere. Some Rajput states gave a dignified resistance and then gave up while others simply walked into Mughal subservience to safeguard their kingdoms from ruin. Very few like Mewar stood up to him even after the carnage at Chittor.

This post shows to a great extent the reasons why Maharana Pratap and his father, Rana Uday Singh, were so hostile to the Mughals and fought so long and hard for their independence and pride. Which proud race would accept meekly the massacre of its people and accept as overlord the man who had ruined their capital?

Your each point is valid here. I was equally surprised to read the accounts where words like wonderful were being used for massacre.! The last paragraph answers the question you raised.
