CHAPTER 7
There was an awkward silence...both of them were sitting in the car with a blank face secretly shooting glances at each other and then staring at either the steering wheel or their phones...
Pratap broke the silence
'That was really nice..what you did'
'What did I do?' Ajabde asked with a puzzled look
'The way you saved that child' pratap said with a smile escaping his lips even though he tried to suppress it
'Ohh...that was nothing...it's everyone's duty right?'
'Ya! But not everybody actually does something like that!'
Ajabde started blushing profusely and she tried to hide it by staring out of the window...she got back to normal after some time'
She was staring out if the window. The rains were taking turns by drizzling and then suddenly raining heavily and then drizzling again and at that moment it had stopped raining completely.
Ajabde shouted with pleasure
'Pav bhaji!!'
'What? You want Pav bhaji...at such a place?'
It was line of different fast food...there were chat counters, Pav bhaji stalls and kulfi and gola stalls as well.
'You've never had food at such stalls sir? Are you serious?'
'I always order from a good restaurant...this place must be so unhygienic!'
'The taste is completely different from the stupid five star hotels..they just charge a bit too much, give less quantity and tasteless food! You have to try it today! Come on! Come on sir! Please!!'
Pratap just couldn't make himself say no to such a cute puppy face and he agreed. He parked his act and they headed towards the Pav bhaji stall...there was just one bench kind of thing out there...both of them sat and Ajabde gave an order
'Bhaiyya, do Pav bhaji aur onions side pe dena'
'Ajabde! Make it just one'
'Sir you have to have it...I'm not listening to you'
'Ok madam! I'm just saying that I can't have such a big plate...we can share'
'You wanna share from one plate?'
'Yaa!'
'Ok...as long as you try it I don't mind sir'
'You can call me pratap...that's what all my friends call me' pratap said with a small smile
Ajabdes face lit up with a smile and she tried to not smile too hard and she murmured an okay and thanks
Soon the pav bhaji arrived...it was looking delicious with a big scoop of butter and lots of onions and coriander and lemon juice sprinkled as well...
Pratap held the plate in the middle and they stayed eating slowly...
Pratap exclaimed 'shit! How come i never had such excellent food...this is the best pav bhaji I've tasted in my life and that's saying something after eating mom made pav bhaji...lov...I mean thank you for bringing me over here' he smiled
'No problem! Now that you've called me a friend I think there shouldn't be too many sorry's and thank you's'
'Right' and they ate away...
They finished all the food and it started drizzling...the entire road was very slippery...they starting walking when ajabde tripped over a stone and she was about to fall when strong arms caught her and saved her...she had her arm on prataps shoulders and the other one was caught tightly by pratap while prataps other hand was on her waist.
They had a long eye lock which broke about a minute later when ajabde came back to her senses and pulled herself up..an always silence crept again and Ajabde broke it
'Thanks pratap' and she smiled red at her cheeks..
'No problem' he smiled back
'Let's have gola no! Have you tried it'
'Only a few times when I was a lit younger'
'Let's go and make you have it then'
They went to the gola counter next and Ajabde ordered a kala khatta while pratap went for kacchi kairi.
Both of them thoroughly enjoyed themselves while it started raining even heavier and ajabde was also shivering due to the chilly winds that came along with the rains..
Pratap took out his blazer and made her wear it and they had another eye lock and then both of them looked away at the same time trying to hide their smiles...
Then they started walking back to the car, no tension in their mind, enjoying the rains and each other's presence as well...
