Mann maane na ye baat, ke woh tha begana
It had been a few hours since he returned back from Bijolia. But it felt like eternity. He was resting in his room, trying to put himself to sleep, but failing miserably. He went back a few hours to recollect what happened when he entered the Chittor palace.
"Kunwar Pratap has arrived..." daasi called out, while he was disembarking from his horse. He heard the sound of anklets tinkling and coming closer towards the door and almost immediately flashed the image of Ajabdeh running in the corridors of Bijolia. He jerked.
"Pratap, finally I see you!" His Rani Maa approached towards him with a thaali in his hand. He beamed. How much had he missed her. "Rani Maa..." He choked and bowed down to take her blessings and JB embraced him lovingly.
"We came to know about the deadly attack on you, Pratap. To see you here in front of my eyes again, I don't know what to say..." Rani Maa said, tears rolling down her face.
"Nothing would happen to me Rani Maa" Pratap smiled "Ur blessings and Aj..." he stopped. Again the thought of Ajab taking care of him and saving him from death fleeted around him. "...uhh...I mean, everything is fine Maa, the family in Biijolia, Raojee, Hansamaasijee aanndd.." he couldn't bring himself to take her name, he did not know why, he knew if he did, he would, he would break... "aand their daughter, they took great care of me" assuring her.
JB looked relieved..."Pratap, for my sake, I need to ward off evil eyes on you..." and she started the procedure. He gulped...nazar utarna...again Ajab in front of his eyes...what was she trying to look at that day, amused, he wondered and smiled...
Pratap thought to himself, "I could not even ask her..."...he was again lost.
"Did u say something Pratap.." JB inquired. He broke his train of thoughts. "Uh oh Rani Maa, no did I?" Pratap was flustered.
JB was certain, there was something that was bothering him, he did not seem to be the usual person he is. Maybe he needed some rest, she thought.
"Pratap, go and rest for sometime, maybe you are tired I ll get your food readied.." JB said lovingly. A bit embarrassed, Pratap followed her inside.
What was happening to him , he wondered.
Yeh dard kyun? yeh pyaas kyun?
Phira kare, udaas kyun
Yeh ranj kyun? talash kyun?
Man Bawara!
He slowly walked towards his room and started unpacking and he recollected Ajab helping him unpack in Bijolia. Involuntarily he smiled. He recollected how he could see his mother in her. Her eyes, he thought. How had he never noticed earlier, they were so pretty, so innocent, like window of her pure, selfless soul. They couldn't even hide the pain she was going through, when she asked him to leave. She tried hard, he thought to himself. But she failed, he knew she was as hurt as he was. His eyes moistened.
Hai zindagi muhaal kyun?
Bana liya yeh haal kyun bata..
Uljha-uljha rehta naa sunta naa kuch kehta
Sooni sooni aankhon se reh reh paani behta
He got up to wash his face...maybe that would help him get over whatever was going on inside him..but it just seemed to bring back.. some more memories. Ajab's face smeared with haldi, them finding the ring in the water, their hands meeting inside...her accidentally splashing water on him when he saw her for the first time...Pratap shut his eyes. He couldn't take it anymore. There was storm raging inside...and he, even with all his skill set, did not have any idea how to break this, or overcome this.
He walked towards the window...maybe he needed fresh air. A beautifully lit moon was gazing down on him...The tears which had been held inside for long, finally silently trickled down...
"Ajabdeh" he finally said her name...holding on to the window...
Miles away, someone in Bijolia felt the pain and the winds seemed to have carried his plea, his voice...
She looked up...to stare at the moon..."Kunwar Pratap"...involuntarily she too cried out...
Thandi aahein bhar ke
Jeeta hai mar-mar ke
Pyasa reh gaya hai
Yeh dariya se guzar ke...
Holding on to the memories, they both cried together...they both felt the pain together...their tears dropped together
...physical distance could not separate their connected hearts...it just ended up bringing them closer...maybe that is what true love is all about J
