Becomes highest paid actor on TV after Star Plus revises his remuneration
Reena Thapar Kapoor
According to industry insiders, a closed-door meeting was held at the Star TV office recently to rework Manish Goyal's (Tilak of Bhabhi) footage in the serial, as well as his remuneration.
There have been rumours about Manish Goyal quitting UTV's afternoon blockbuster Bhabhi for some time now. The situation worsened when Dolly Sohi, the lead actress of the show, quit and shifted base to Canada last month. The actresses' absence in the show has affected Manish's character and its visibility in the show since the two were romantically paired with each other.
"I have been having meetings with the channel, Star Plus and UTV for the past few weeks. My main concern is to get a decent track in Bhabhi,"says Goyal. "I refuse to play a prop in the show that has always been centered around Tilak."
Apparently, Goyal's statements to the press about quitting the show had put a lot of pressure on its producers. Since the lead heroine has already quit the show, losing the hero too would harm the viewership of Bhabhi.
When contacted about the rumour that he is now the highest paid actor on television, Goyal said, "My fee has been reworked. But only the channel heads can say whether I'm the highest paid actor."
While most top-notch television take home Rs 20-25,000 per day, Goyal's new fee is believed to be much more. "I'm not going to disclose the figure," says Goyal. "However, this only puts more pressure on me to better my performance each day."
Goyal has also been roped in by the BBC to do a music video on AIDS awareness.
