There is a degree of abuse people can handle. Too much abusive with little knowledge of mental health can be a disastrous combination.

I don't get it. If the person is more sympathetic and understanding then why are you even calling that person mentally ill!

Mental illness does not always mean psychopathy or homicidal tendencies. Depression is also a mental condition and many depressive people are sympathetic and understanding to others.

Debate of Nature vs. Nurture is ongoing and never ending aspect of Psychology. No matter how many psychologists try to prove what has more effect on human psychology.
But as many have pointed that a child born in such families may turn out to be more understanding and sympathetic and stuff could be right, equally even if reverse the situation, often there are 'more' normal families (every family would have some or the other flaws too, so more normal than Maya's) wherein child born would still have some psychological tendencies, inspite of being in regular environment or just like normal people... Origin could be many... Some hereditary genes, some family expectations, feeling of inferiority or superiority, etc.

Similarly, its not necessary that every child born in abnormal family will have a child with some issues.. Infact how many could have related the Maya we saw in first season to be psychotic in first scene, where she is just a normal girl feeling sad and scared? Its all about reaction to the situation.

Infact, being very honest... Very honest, I never found anything completely wrong with Janvi... She might have been normal woman (like Arjun) , with abusive husband.. Which had led her to become submissive and in addition she had daughter, who was more of control freak... As much as Ashwin wanted to control Jaanvi (Like Maya does to Arjun), he never succeeded because Maya knew her game better... So there is a major difference in structure of family..

1. Two normal people (Arjun and Janvi) married to controlling and mentally unstable spouse.
2. While one went into Submissive mode completely, Arjun is still on the way to bow to Maya in every possible way... With just a difference being, Maya might never genuinely leave Arjun like Ashwin did to Jaanvi after she became dependent on him. Because Ashwin's obsession was property and Maya's is Arjun.

Coming to Saanjh.. Cannot comment.. Cuz her character is completely different and we can't just plug her in...

But not every child born to more Normal family is normal and not every child born into abusive family Abnormal.

But usually children born to dysfunctional parents grow up with a lot of issues. Maybe they don't all go murdering people but they are usually very difficult to handle.

I have seen many children of 'functional' couples who are two-faced, gold diggers and backstabbers. They were also difficult to handle. Don't see your point there.

What's not to get! You asked about children born to dysfunctional parents which Ashwin and Jhanvi are... so I said about dysfunctional family .Since I am studying the same I have seen in most cases children having issues stems out mostly from parents who are dysfunctional.
Not disagreeing that children having functional parents do not have any vices. What you have pointed out are vices that children have coming from functional couples as well... not issues.

Only after they come out of their depression through medical help not otherwise. While still in depression they themselves need help... they lose interest in life... they feel everyone is against them..they form their own world and live in it. They develop trust issues. They cannot trust anyone

My friend had abusive parents .. her mom used burn cigarettes on her hand .the she went to foster home and that place wasn't nice to her either ...bt she never gave up on her life ..she learned in early age not to be depend on anyone .. when she graduated from high school she was more happy that she will be free from Forster parents..now after 8 years she is a bank manager and helping children and elder person .. Pple can be good in bad circumstances it's their will power that matters bt if she was sick since the beginning that it would have been different story .. bt I'm not sure if maya is sick or pure evil ..

Since Maya's childhood, Maya was never accepted by the society. She was isolated and been called mad and bad due to which she was demoralised. Its not like Maya had no empathy or sympathy for people. She was good before, she did have goodness and would go extreme to save other lives. BUT..
What went wrong was Maya's good deeds were all IGNORED.
She even desperately tried to be accepted by VM. BUT..

VM and others didn't give her that ONE CHANCE.

Had Maya not left her true friend Lord Ganesha, then Maya wouldn't have turned so bad as she is now.

So my point is people like Maya need to be given that one CHANCE/OPPORTUNITY.

Maya's life experiences i.e. her isolation from the society made her loose all that belief in humanity and goodness. She even left her her true friend Lord Ganesha out of anger and hurt. Hurt of loosing her unborn child.

People like Maya need support and encouragement. There has to atleast be one person to guide people like Maya.

In Maya's case Arjun failed here because instead of guiding Maya or trying to make her see sense at an early stage, he succumbed to Maya and then when things went out of control he started to behave extremely rude and insulting to Maya.

Now I think Arjun has finally realised how to handle Maya. He is guiding her now... but lets see whats the outcome of this... since its a bit too late..
Saanjh on the other hand is similar to Maya in terms of her obsession with Arjun. When the show had started the symptoms and behaviour of Saanjh indicated obsession. The way she used to cut Arjun and Maya's pics when they were not even lovers indicated her beyhadh obsession for Arjun too.

And then all that applying vicco turmeric on ArYa's haldi day and other rituals just strengthened this indication. We shouldn't forget the tamasha she had done on ArYa's wedding day either. Any normal girl in Maya's place would have lost her senses there. Even after ArYa's marriage, at the early days Saanjh still did some more tamasha with Arjun which made Maya all more INSECURE.

Therefore had Saanjh been Ashwin and Jhanvi's daughter and had she experienced the same thing as Maya i.e. insult, ignorance, isolation and her husband having a friend like Saanjh herself then Saanjh would have more or less turned into another Maya. And this new Saanjh (Saanjh Mehotra) would have definitely hated Saanjh (friend of her husband) as Maya does. Hope I made sense though... lol
