In all this soup of accusations, counter-allegations, evidence and ruthless mockery, there's one thing that we should all be pondering upon:
Ayan didn't intend to rape Maya, true (I know, I know; let's all just assume that his intentions were clean for arguments' sake).
Maya, as described by Saanjh in her audio-visual flashback, cleverly put the keys in her clothes to stop Ayan from reaching them. And Ayan lunged for the keys; deliberately (Yes, DELIBERATELY) ripping apart Maya's clothes in the process. He did it not once, not twice, but three times.
The above mentioned bit of information brings me to the hot-button issue:
"Was Ayan indeed justified in ripping off Maya's clothes to look for the keys?"
In my opinion, NO. Because you DO NOT go around stripping women of their bits of clothing unless you have absolutely no alternative to it.
I'd raised this point in another thread yesterday, and my comments received counters in the form of:
'Even Maya had alternatives to hide the keys somewhere else or call the cops? Why did she not do so?'
Yes, a very pertinent question indeed. Maya could've done a bunch of things instead of just slipping it into her blouse in front of Ayan. But maybe she did the hiding bit on an impulse (because she did not expect Ayan to come, did not expect him to barge in or whatever). There could be a gazillion reasons for Maya not hiding the keys earlier. But heck, that's not the point.
The point is, we-- all of us here (including some Maya fans) agree that Maya is a person who's in fact criminally insane. She committed a host of crimes; the most prominent ones being unlawful sedation and confinement. What she did was MOST DEFINITELY criminal, we get that. And if she's framing Ayan for rape, she deserves to be behind bars for at least three years.
Do we agree till this point?
Yep, we do. Every single one of us.
Now, let's look at Ayan. ONLY Ayan. Was he, in HIS PLACE, justified to rip Maya's clothes deliberately? Did he not have any other alternative to it?
While answering the question, let's keep two very important points in mind:
1. Maya's clothes DID NOT tear in a scuffle; so answers like, 'What if a female commits a crime and I tear her clothes in an attempt to fight her' would be automatically rendered invalid. Ayan tore them DELIBERATELY (unless proved otherwise)
2. Ayan had a range of other alternatives to tearing Maya's clothes. It was not as if tearing Maya's clothes to get the keys, was the ONLY OPTION.
Again, as a reminder, don't use Maya to justify Ayan's actions, because it's already been said that she's committed crimes and deserves punishment. The question is SOLELY on Ayan's actions.
