Hey! Welcome to this forum, I'm Dhrishti. As a matter of fact, Maya is my favourite character in the series. Perhaps you need to look a bit deeper and in a detailed manner to understand mt perspective or maybe she just isn't your cup of tea. How are you enjoying the show so far?

thanks for such a kind reply Drishti :)firstly, i think I've misunderstood the character, as said earlier, i have only really skimmed through episodes. Its a gripping show, but then again, repeated manipulation and shrewdness isnt pleasant and leaves my mouth sour.

Hi. Welcome to this forum..
This show theme is to present a grey shaded lead dear. If manipulation is not shown by lead thn there is nothing new left in this show.
Great sacrificing heroines, shrewd villians are generally seen in every other show.
For a new concept, a strong and not purely good hearted heroine is needed. Thats what the story is on how she manages to get away from her childhood demons by hlp of her love

Welcome to the forum!
Please watch the episodes throughly and understand her POV
She hasn't had the easiest life, and yearns for love
Her own mother has betrayed her several times
And now she is finding love in someone else
She sees that love in Arjun, and she doesn't want to lose him at any cost
She wants to make sure that she gets his love, because that's what she is missing in life
Her fathers torture makes her think that love is extremely hard to get, and once you get it you have to control it... her past has shaped her immensely
But at the same time she is selfless when it comes to people she loves
She has risked her own life to save Arjun and her mother... she is grey, meaning she has her flaws
And that's what connects me to her. Everyone is flawed and no one is perfect. She is a perfect example of that. I just feel that at the end of the day a person like Maya, who has been mercilessly tortured in childhood, someone whose own mother couldn't protect her, someone who fears god and the loss of anyone she loves, she too deserves love in life...
she feels like she will have to use manipulation to get love, she doesn't understand that with deep love, she can make anyone love her. She has seen ashwin manipulate her mother, and her mother gave ashwin love despite that. So she thinks that she will also have to use manipulation
But she doesn't know that her love is enough to make anyone fall in love with her
I can sympathize with her and connect with her which is why according to me she is the best character in the show :)

Thank you for this amazing response, Isha! It is such an eye opening write up, thank you! I do agree with whatever you have said. However, I'm still confused as I'm not familiar with the story inside out. Yes, she is a grey character, she is flawed, she is a human. But I feel like these shades have been extremely glamorized. I'm not saying she's a witch, I'm saying its sort of portrayed like its "cool" to manipulate. But yes, that does tone down my irritation for Maaya quite a bit!
