I think theres more to it. Surely they cant make Maya a murderer?

Maybe Maya went to speak to him because she was upset, but something might have happened, like the pandit meeting with an accident or heart attack.. but instead of helping, she froze and left him there thinking why should she help him.. and gets off. Next thing you know, he dies.
