Arjun Sharma and Rudra Roy- The Similarities

Three episodes into the second season of Beyhadh and while we're all gushing over the class, mystery and sophistication that surrounds our very own Maya while praising Jennifer Winget's acting chops and the on point background music, we can't help but notice the similarities between Rudra and Arjun, can we? Why, I am surprised nobody has created a topic on this yet! Here are my two cents on the matter-

1. The Step parent hatred

Arjun Sharma hated his step mom to the core, even going to the depths of accusing her of murdering his own mom! Rudra wholeheartedly hates MJ while loving his mom and still staying in the house only for her as he puts it.

2. The Little brother

Both Arjun and Rudra adore and care for their little brothers Ayaan and Rishi deeply even when they hate their respective step parent. The little brothers look up to them for protection and they both have an eye for mischief. Also, interestingly, Rishi is already infatuated with Maya and Ayaan , if I am not wrong, thought Maya was gorgeous! Now, Maya saved Ayaan from the police once (remember when she slapped that cop?) and she was also the one to get him arrested. This time around, she tied Rishi up to that idol and was also the one to save him from drowning. (Quite a coincidence, eh?)

3. The best friend with a crush

Saanjh, the best friend and her crush on Arjun. And Arjun never reciprocating her feelings initially. Do we see a connection here with the Ananya-Rudra equation? Meanwhile Vandana always wanted Saanjh as her bahu and the same goes for MJ and Ananya. Did you see how Maya reacted to that khas dost thing on the phone with her agent? She momentarily and quite eerily closed her eyes as if remembering something and then exclaimed, 'Nibhaane do dosti".

Hmm, for now Rudra hates Maya but so did Arjun once. You never know, Rudra and Maya may become a thing and the relationship may continue to grow until Rudra realizes 'Maya ka sach' and falls for Ananya instead? Your thoughts?

But whether Mj is Rudra's step father or not is yet to be known.The reason of his hatred can turn out to be something else.But anyways the similarity is there.

I liked your observations. There are actually a lot of similarities if we put it the way you did. But the thing is Arjun's step mom was actually a positive character while it's vice-versa in this case and we cannot be sure about MJ being Rudra's step dad.

While similarities exist they are superficial, the difference is quite fundamental though. Arjun wanted money ,Rudra wants self respect. Arjun was apathetic to everyone Rudra is shocked why people are so indifferent. But most importantly - Arjun's initial hatred for Maya was because a woman boss was bossing her around, Rudra ont the other hand tries to be as sensible as possible - while fencing he tries to reason out with Maya and it is only when she makes him bleed he decides to pass a judgement about her. He cares about Rishi, but unlike Arjun he doesn't looks like someone who would abandon his brother in the time of need. (Just my opinion).

As for Anu she likes Rudra but here is what I liked about Anu - she is open about it - Saanjh just waited and waited and waited for the entire universe to tell Arjun about her love. And secondly she openly said she is not a pet - Saanjh was a doormat. Her entire life was about marrying Arjun. But even so who can deny , Anu and Saanjh both had the same fate - fight Maya tooth and nail just to fall into her trap.

Yeah, I agree that we can't be sure but it looks like he might be as of now.

I concur, we don't need another Jhanvi or another Arjun. The purpose of this post was only to outline what I observed and as you put it, there are similarities and there are differences.

Apart from what you said, Rudra is also a self-made man and wants to carve a niche for himself relying on his abilities while Arjun relied on Maya heavily and fell for her flattery and tactics which is why she could control him in the first place.

However, the similarities seemed way too evident for me to not mention at this point. 😆

But I would like to say Saanjh & Ananya are different. Though they both love ML but Ananya is open about that & enough strong. Not a pet of Rudra like she said.

Maya falls in love with one Passionately and hates the other with even passion. Are CVs using the same crutches and yet giving contradictions?

On topic , I don't think MJ is Rudra's stepfather . Reason is simple. The reason Maya is going after Rudra and Rishi are only and only because they're MJ's sons , though she knows they're innocent people and don't even know her , let alone play any part in her tragedy. But she considers it justified because they're MJ's blood and therefore must pay for their father's sin and also because hurting them will in turn hurt MJ.

Now , a guy like MJ would care a damn about what fate befalls Rudra if he were not his blood. He would fake some fatherly concern for Rudra in front of the world and his wife , but really would feel nothing if Maya ruins him. So the very fact that Maya is going after them, proves that they're both his sons.

Some thing happened 5 years back that caused Rudra's relationship with his father to sour. Could be so many things. But most probably , it involves cheating ( since the whole "chodne ki himmat line to his mom ) and money laundering from innocent people, which makes him so avidly against the very idea of taking his money . It has to be more than about carving a niche or identity on his own.
