We rejoin Chand and Parth at the temple, (Parth is wearing a yellow plaid shirt that doesn't suit him) where Chand asks Parth if he will marry her and he says yes, and Chand is so happy that she hugs him. Then we hear the temple bell ring, and see that it is a fantasy in Chand's head, with her standing back from the temple and listening in on Parth and Krishna. Krishna tells Parth, that she has asked him over and over again to marry Chand and that it will give her a new start in life, that this way she won't have to deal with this forced arranged marriage. She tells him that the man is forty years old and has a daughter etc. Then Parth replies back that he has said over and over that he doesn't love Chand and can't marry her because of this. Chand, hearing his words, runs off in tears. (poor thing) Krishna tells Parth that marrying her would be right etc etc, and then he tells her that the marriage would ruin three lives, because he is not in love with Chand.
Chand goes back to the house and cries on Veera's shoulder and confides in her. Veera gets defiant and says they should go to the police and complain about Chand's situation, that a woman should not have to marry against her will. And Chand objects, saying it will ruin their father's name.
Jati Bua comes into the room and mocks them, that isn't everyone happy for Chand, that she is going to such a wealthy home (what horrible timing she has) and that she is marrying a rich man. And that one by one, all the daughters of Nilkant's house are going to leave after marriage. she can't conceal her elation at this thought.
Nilkant tells Chand that he got a phone call from Mahindra and that he will let them know his decision.
Chand's stressful day just gets worse, and she goes to the terrace and explodes in tears and anger. She overturns a pile of green limes, (as in how sour her life looks at this point) then a pile of bright red dried chillies, some of which she steps on (you go girlfriend, let it out) and cries to herself about her fate. She says to herself, I didn't do anything, something was done to me, why do I have to pay for it? She looks upward and asks, "how could you do this to me?" etc.
Later Vedant comes to the house in the guise of a seer and says that he knows everything, that he knows the girls are depressed and he knows all. Veera and Chand let him in and he says that he doesn't read palms, but he reads faces as they say everything. Then he pretends to read Veera's face and says, "Shubanallah, shubanallah" and strains of instrumental Middle Eastern music are playing in the background. Vedant's beard falls off a little, revealing to the girls his true identity. Just then, Jati Bua and the mother come in from shopping and ask what the guy is doing there. Vedant salaams them. Then the girls explain who he is and Jati bua is suspicious of him. She steps closer to him, and Veera looks nervous as if Jati bua will guess his true identity. But then she asks the seer who is actually our own Vedant, that if he is for real, to tell them whether or not Chand's marriage will happen. Then he utters again "shubanallah, shubanallah" and says that the man will keep Chand happy forever. He then makes his exit from the house, with mother and Jati bua none the wiser. Jati bua looks pleased. (She knows she has messed up Chand's life with her well-chosen words and has also gotten rid of one of the daughters from Nilkant's house.)
Later that day, the mother comes into Chand's room to pull the covers over Chand, who is sleeping, and says that she hopes she will get a good boy and a good home. She prays that whomever she marries will love her so much.
Chand, who is actually awake, opens her eyes after the mother leaves and declares that she will never marry him because she doesn't love him and that the one she loves doesn't want to marry her. What will she do? She then asks God to show her the way.
The next morning, Mahindra comes to Nilkant's house. the parents are seated in the living room with Mahindra. Nilkant asks him to drink something. Then he asks, what is he thinking, does he like their daughter? At this point, Chand has flashbacks of the last day when Mahindra talks to her at the restaurant, then of Parth when he says he doesn't love her and can't marry her, and gets overwhelmed by the flashes. Mahindra ponders a moment, then refuses and says he can't marry her because of some kismat. The disappointment is obvious on Nilkant's and the mother's faces. Nilkant says goodbye and starts to leave. then all of a sudden, an overemotional Chand stops Mahindra and tells him with hands folded that she wants to marry him and falls at his feet. Mahindra is visibly moved by this. He tells her he needs to think. The scene ends.
