I come from England and I'm a Muslim and from what I've learnt, it's completely halal to marry your cousins but I always thought marrying your cousins was culturally frowned upon/ a very traditional concept. I couldn't ever imagine marrying any of my cousins let alone romancing with them but in Beintehaa (btw not bashing Zaya completely ship them ;-) ) marrying your cousin seems to be the norm and I was wondering whether in India, whether it is normal to marry your cousin? Like Zayn and Aliya are first cousins, they share blood and yet when it came to them getting married that factor wasn't a concern

I'm not a Muslim, so I can't entirely vouch for this. But from what I have heard and read on this forum, my impression is that it is acceptable to marry your cousin in the Islamic culture.

When Islams permits marrying your cousins then why the heck does culture matter? Leave behind the matter what people will say! As along as it is permitted, all cousins can marry each other 😃 hey dear! Noo! They are not blood relations ! Cousins are not blood relations that's why you can get married to your cousins, be it your Mammu ka beta, chachu ka beta, Khala ka beta 😆

I do know that it's a principle that is allowed in Islam but I thought it was a principle that was rarely acted upon, Muslims in England will usually object to marrying their cousins because it's just awkward e.g zain is Aliya's cousin and that too her first cousin and also her husband

Hey I'm from England to! I'm not a muslim I'm Hindu but of what I've heard and seen it is acceptable to marry your cousin.
But I guess we live in the UK and are Gen Next. British Asians are more mordern. There's also the thing about genetic deformities arising. And cousins are people who you grow up they are like your brothers and sisters. But in Beintehaa but in other pakistani drama's I've seen the Girl and Boy don't grow up together they just know they are cousins.

Well ZaYa weren't close cousins. So that's why it wasn't a big deal. Like I am extremely close to all my cousins so I can't even think about marrying them.
