The tears don't stop. The feeling of sadness envelops her, choking her. She doesn't understand. Why? Why the feeling of torment? She isn't meant to be pregnant, then why the feeling of utter despair? Why are her insides screaming in agony? A loud sob escapes her mouth before she can stop it. She knows. She knows why.
He watches her from the window of their bedroom. Disappointment settles, heavy on his heart. Why? Why the feeling of regret? They are only friends, then why the feeling of anguish? Why are his insides contracting in pain? He hears the soul shattering sob escape her mouth. He knows. He knows why.
They feel each other's presence as he sits himself down next to her. He jokes around; she isn't impressed. He asks her a simple question - if you knew, then why are you crying? Her answer is instant - my wish, she says. Except they both know. It's a lie.
She will never have kids. They will only just be friends. It's the harsh reality that has only just struck. She had always wanted to have her own little bundle, if not bundles, of joy. She would never get that happiness. His heart breaks as he thinks about not being able to give her one of the many things she has wanted in her life. He could if he wanted to, but it wouldn't be appropriate with where their relationship stands.
He feels hopeless. She feels crushed. And they both sleep over it. Some things, they both decide, are better left unsaid.
