Anokhe Rishte: Relationships in BB

Barrister Babu has, as its theme song 'Rishta Tera Mera', and at its heart, the Anokha Rishta between Ani and Bon. But there are many more relationships in BB, both romantic and not, which are unique in their own way. And through this thread, I want throw some light on these nirale relationships as well.

Anirudh and Sampoorna: Long-term coworkers and friends

So I chose to start with one of the relationships which fascinated me since the leap... Anirudh and Sampoorna, especially the relationship that developed between them post leap.

Ani and Sampoo have never had a conversation pre leap, which was not about the two people who were the reason that they knew each other in the first place - Saurav or Bondita. For Ani, Sampoo was always Saurav's wife, Bon's sister and then Binoy's wife. Relationships defined by her relationship with people close to him. And after her negativity was exposed, he ceased keeping any relationship with her, from not calling her Ma, to even threatening her life... and even in the poisoning scene, he addressed her as Sampoorna only.

However after leap, while we didn't initially see any interactions between the two, Ani had softened towards her a little, and Sampoo Ma was back. But it didn't seem anything special. Until one scene that fascinated me... It was after Ani had been harsh with VJ for stepping into his Bon shrine. Later that night, Ani was explaining Binoy's various medicines to Sampoo, post which Sampoo actually questions him on why he was so harsh with VJ. But what astounded me was that Ani actually answered her honestly, and she in turn gave him advice that he listened to. This situation with Sampoo giving Ani advice and Ani actually listening to her has continued all the way to the their last scene together, Rudhi's phulsojja night. And since Nazuk Kali made a return post leap, there has been a sort of teasing banter that is on between the two, specially noticing that Sampoo rarely teases Bon, but teases Ani directly, and Ani takes the teasing in complete stride, with an acquired besharmi. This isn't a conventional stepmother - stepson relationship, but seems closer to a friendship.

So how did this relationship change so drastically? If you see Sampoo post-leap, she is generally seen doing one of three things, serving people food/aarti, taking care of Binoy or being with the kiddos. On the other hand, Ani was taking care of all of TP and had effectively become the head of the RCs. And apart from Bihari, only Ani and Sampoo were seen minding the kids or with Binoy. So my headcanon here is that while Ani stepped up to being effective head of the RCs during this dushmani, it was Sampoo who stepped up into the shoes of the lady of the house, causing the two to work together extensively. So while Ani was still in Don Babu mode, the relationship he developed with Sampoo is that of long time work partners, like the CEO and the COO of the company. This lead to them spending more time together, which later became the foundation for the friendship and banter we see today.

It was easy to understand Ani's attitude to Sampoo preleap. But I was surprised to see him calling Sampoo ma again and giving respect, the naagin he earlier threatened to kill. Your analysis made it clear that being the remaining sane persons (Binoy literally ill and TRC and nakli doctor mad in enmity), situations made them work together and paved the way for their present friendship.

That’s an interesting relation to highlight, I have actually liked Sampoorna’s character very much as it was only that character that actually went through a whole arc and a great one too.From a loving sister to vicious vamp to matured mother. And her dynamics with Anirudh have constantly interested me too.

I remember their conversation when Anirudh is made realise the chhodi hui aurat thing for Bondita by Rasiya Bai and Sampoorna finally spill the beans of Bondita’s silence in Brijwasi kaand. Her hesitation to talk to Anirudh during that period is so in character and then it takes 360 turn when she calls out on him for using his father’s money to fulfill his dream of changing society by teaching Bondita and calls it all a pretence and accuses him of being spoiled brat and nothing more, then to scold him for being harsh and rude to Vaijanti (Bondita) and told him to say sorry and he did apologise. She is one well written character in the show.

Also it was easier for me to like her even when she was a vamp as I saw the whole show leap in one go (I started watching the show only post leap)
I feel it has only been Pallavi and Pravisht (Anirudh-Salim-Roopa-Batuk) who have actually gotten to explore beyond their originally written character sketch.
