Ok please bear with me🤣 i just decided to convert this to a five shot🤣 its effect of lockdown. Really don't have much to do on holidays and so my bored mind churned out this crap so i decided to bore everyone with it😆
I had written rudhita scenes but Anirudh's pov became so long so just cut out rudhita for next part😒 don't know if anyone will like it or not as it is more of anirudh's pov and rudhita backstory.
So here it goes...
Rudhita FS: jealousy
Chapter 3
Dinner was an uneventful affair in the RC mansion today. Atleast more uneventful than the turbulent breakfast and lunch thanks to his wife thought anirudh to himself. Baba and kaka were back from work, they all chit chatted a little on the dinner table. Kaka was the happiest as the apple of his eyes was back home for her holidays. He was happily enquiring bondita about her life in London, studies and all. Som and batuk were laughing at how they had pulled a prank on bondita by keeping fake cockroaches in her room and made her run all through the house freaking out at it and bondita was giving them murderous looks. Baba didn't bother speaking to bondita much and was just giving "what do you think you are doing" looks to kaka as he was talking to Bondita. But amidst everything he couldn't help but notice that bondita wasn't her normal self. She was usually a chatter box talking continuously and did not need much promting. Though her mood was better than in the noon, she just didn't seem to be herself, she was just answering kaka and didn't talk much other than that. After dinner she just went back to sleep. I mean she just went away like that without talking to him!! thought Anirudh. And annoyed him a lot.
He usually slept very late owing to his voracious reading habit. For a very long time, maybe from the time when she came to the house, Bondita visited his study after dinner. Earlier it was because she was bored and wanted someone to listen to her daily rants, but after he enrolled her for school, it was for more for reading books and bombarding him with her questions. He usually hoarded her with books to read, partly because he wanted her to read and partly because it would keep her busy and maybe a little bit silent too. Though she gradually fell in love with reading and books and he couldn't be more happy with this, her talkitive nature didn't change even a bit. With or without books she spoke all she wanted to speak. She would come to study, also read some books ask him, about his cases and owing to the chatter box she is, filled him with all the minute details of her day. In the beginning it was a bit irritating to him as he wasn't much talkitive person neither could he tolerate anyone talking continuously with him but gradually even he started opening up to her bit by bit and even started liking it. Over the years it had become a ritual for them. And he discovered they both usually thought along the same lines. Its like he had someone whom he could talk to and share his thoughts with who didn't think he was mad and even agreed with him.
But when she went out for studies he missed it, missed talking to her, missed having a companion who was probably the only one who understood him. So, they started writing letters to each other filling each other with all the details of their respective lives. And those letters became an integral part of his life. But this ritual still continued when she came back for holidays. And today she just went away after dinner. And it made him sad and disappointed and a bit angry too. He had to know whatever was bothering her. It cannot continue like this, he decided.
He was thinking how to know what happened when he saw batuk passing by his study.
"Batuk yahan aao" he told
"Kya hua dada?"
" Arre andar toh aao kuch baat karni hai tumse"
Batuk came inside and stood there.anirudh got up from his chair and walked upto him, putting his arms around batuk's shoulder asked-
"yeh bondita ko kya hua hai? Aaj kuch ajeeb bartaav kar rahi hai voh"
" Mujhe kaise pata hoga dada?"
"Itna bhola banne ki zarurat nahi hai "
" Nahi dada mai sach bol raha hun. Hosakta hai ki koi baat hi na ho. aur vaise bhi voh hai hi thodi pagal, kal tak thik hojaegi"
"Aisa baba kehte hain" batuk added after he caught Anirudh glaring at him.
" Koi baat toh zarur hai. Usne muje nahi bataya toh tumhe bataya hi hoga. Uske pet main vaise bhi koi baat nahi tikti"
"Mujhe toh usne kuch nahi bataya dada"
"Thik hai"
Batuk started leaving when anirudh continued- "main Soch raha tha jo tumhare college ke principal se letters aate hain tumhare shaitani aur padhai ko lekar, aur tumhare report cards jo tum mujh se sign karvate ho aaj baba ko dikhadun. Vaise bhi mere drawer bhar gaya hai. Kya khayal hai?" said Anirudh smiling.
Batuk came and sat back. He was badly struck. If he spilled the beans bondita would'nt leave him and if he told god knows what dada will do. His anger was really unpredictable. Kahan phas gaya main inn dono ke beech, thought batuk dramatically.
"Dada, aap apne chote bhai ko blackmail kaise karsakte ho" batuk said dramatically.
" Abb chota bhai cheezen chupane lage toh kuch toh karna padega na"
Now batuk had no choice. He should have known, his dada is one hell of a stubborn man. If he wanted something, he made sure he got it.
"Voh bondita ko aapke aur saudamini didi ke baare mein pata chal gaya aur ye ki aap dono ki Shaadi hone wali thi. Issliye pareshan thi shayad.
"Par use ye kaise pata chala? Kisne bataya use" asked anirudh a bit shocked.
" Voh sab main nahi janta dada, shotti. Muje jitna pata tha utna batadiya maine"
"Par-" before anirudh could continue batuk got up and started running away saying " muje aur kuch nahi pata aur bondita ko matt batana ki maine bola, chodegi nahi voh pagal mujhe aur please mere report cards baba ko matt dikhana maine sabb bata diya aapko"
" Suno tho" anirudh started but batuk had already ran away. He laughed at his baby brother's antics.
Then he slowly thought about what his brother told him. So, Bondita came to know about him and mini. Was that why she was so upset? He had never told about this aspect of his life. It wasn't really intentional. When he married her and brought her into this house she was too small to understand his relationship with mini. But later when she grew up, he never felt this matter was important enough to be told to her. It would just lead her to feel bad, so he refrained from telling it about her. But now that she knew, what did she feel about it? He was himself feeling quite strange hearing about him and mini. It took him down his memory lane.It felt like that was another lifetime, another anirudh who liked her. There was a time in his life when he would have given anything to marry her. She was his childhood sweetheart after all. When he had to marry bondita, all his dreams crushed, he became hopeless, reckless, brash and what not. Thats why he was so bitter about his marriage to bondita. Now when he looked back at that time, he felt so silly, he used to be so angry on everyone due to his bitterness, blasting anyone and everyone who came his way. He felt like laughing at his younger self.
But he did grow out of that phase, not suddenly but gradually, as he realised there was someone else who was probably in a worse condition than him- Bondita. When he saw her crying herself to sleep. And he felt bad and ashamed of himself. For not bothering about the child he himself brought into the house. When she should have been happily enjoying her life going to school, playing with friends etc. , She had been thrown into an unknown world filled with people who disliked and taunted her and a husband, who himself didn't know what had become of his life. Seeing her he decided to get a grip of himself, decided to fulfill all his promises he had made in the heat of the moment. But it wasn't really as easy as he thought. He had to struggle with his new responsibilities. Whatever he did he had to do keeping in mind that she was just a kid. So he had to be the mature one here.
And then he came to know about bondita being the letter girl, the girl he was impressed with, whose thoughts gave him a hope of a better future, a better country. Maybe thats why she came into his life, he thought at that time. Maybe god was giving him a way of fulfilling his mission of coming back to his country.
So, when he came to know she wasn't literate, He then enrolled her to the school inspite of vehement protests from his family members. And his decision didn't go wrong. She turned out to be such a bright kid who excelled in everything be it academics, sports or extra curriculars. And he couldn't be more proud. Eventually seeing her talent even kaka couldn't stop being proud of her. On the other hand his relationship with mini started deteriorating. He had already accepted the fact that he can never have her in his life the day he married bondita. But the thing was he started discovering, she wasn't really interested in his mission or dreams and sometimes even made mockery out of it leave alone standing with him. He realised gradually that they both maybe just loved a person who they had made up in their head. He hadn't spent much time with her before owing to him growing up in London, but now that he had settled for good in India, and she was his neighbour he discovered she was completely different from what he thought her to be. They both wanted very different things from life. She wanted to live a life of luxury in london with him, which wasn't wrong but he couldn't give her that. He would never be happy living a life of ignorance there, knowing he could have done something to improve situation in his country. He realised that with time, they would have grown apart when the initial bliss of love would have faded. Maybe whatever happened, happened for good. And thus slowly but surely, his bitterness regarding his marriage and guilt regarding saudamini started fading away.
So, he made it clear many times to mini that they couldn't be together and she was free to move on. But she didn't seem to understand. Later he just gave up, he had made his stand very clear. And when he was clear, what she did with her life was none of his business.Though he couldn't help but wish sometimes that she did something meaningful out of her life, she had power, money everything and had so much potential to change the society and life of women around her, but she always chose to downgrade others to show her superiority and spent her time flaunting her beauty. But in any case, he really couldn't completely break his ties with her as she wasn't just his lover, but a very good childhood friend too and a very integral part of his life. So he did maintain his friendship with her to this day.
He had then started practicing in Kolkata couple of years later and took bondita with him for continuing her education there. Even batuk and som joined them after sometimeas they also enrolled themselves in Kolkata. He also joined societies which worked for women rights and upliftment and with all these in his life, mini completely became a thing of past. He also started realising bondita was so much similar to him. She spoke about things she didn't realize were a way ahead of her time. And thus his bond with her grew stronger with time. He now remembered how she had once asked him out of curiosity-
"patibabu, ye ba..ba..baristara babu kya hota hai, apko sablog aisa kyun bulate hain"
He didn't know how he could explain who a barrister was and what he did. So he simply said- " barrister matlab voh jo tark kare"
And her eyes brightened up and she asked "tark toh main bhi karti hun toh kya main bhi ba..barrister hun?"
"Nahi, tark karne ke saath saath bohot padhai bhi karni padti hai barrister banne ke liye"
" Toh do mujhe kitabein, karungi mai padhai aur mai bhi banungi ba..barristera babu" she said with her big bright smile
"Haan baba ban jana tum bhi barrister, par abhi uske liye tum bohot choti ho, thoda vakt lagega uske liye, jab badi hojaogi tab banaenge tumko barrister babu. Ab jao jake so jao" he said with a smile.
He couldn't forget how she had run throughout the house after this shouting with joy, that " mai badi hoke barristera babu banungi, pati babu ne bataya hai mujhe"
And this idea of her becoming a barrister struck with him. Though she didn't realize the weight of what she had said, and was too small to even pronounce the word barrister properly, she did have all qualities required for becoming a barrister. From that day, making her a barrister became his dream too. Later, after her schooling was completed, He wanted her to study in London like him as she would get the best education there and he wanted nothing but the best for her.
And that was the first time after she came into his life, they were separated. She was always a constant presence in his life, that he hadn't realised how she had become an inseparable part of his life. He had always seen and treated her like a kid and student and a bit of a friend too. After she went to London and they kept in touch through letters and phone, she became more of a friend. A friend who he wanted to tell everything, share all about his life. But her going away made him miss her. There was this strange emptiness in his life. But he convinced himself its only because she was always around. He would eventually get used to her absence also, he had thought. Now when he thought about it, he laughed at his own stupidity then. Yes!! Wasn't it stupid of him to think he will get used to live without her!! Only he never could.
But he stubbornly held on to the fact that she was just like a kid to him, his responsibility, thats it, nothing else. He gave himself reasons that his thinking about her all the time was because she was his responsibility and it was only natural for him to feel protective towards her, and look out for her. His constant need to talk to her, to hear her voice, was only for her well being and all that crap. And he would have continued with this hopeless reasoning if not for that letter.
Yup!! That letter, that was a game changer, he mused. A little over a year ago he had received that letter. Getting a letter was nothing unusual. Unusual were its contents more so one or two sentences of it where she had mentioned a guy had proposed her!! And that churned his heart. He found an unreasonable anger coursing through him. He really couldn't understand why was he so angry and restless reading it. When he had married he had toyed with this idea of getting her married to someone of her choice when she grows up. But that was years before. Now that he saw that faint possibility of that idea, he was repulsed by it. He hated even the thought of she being with someone else. It just felt so wrong. But again he was stubborn. So he tried convincing himself that its just his protectiveness speaking. He was just worried for her safety. A part of his mind laughed at his reasoning but he was in denial. Denial of the possibility of bondita being more than just a responsibility.
But he had to know what she thought. So he replied back, asked what she replied to that guy, trying to hide his curiosity as much as possible. And till he got her reply he spent sleepless nights thinking about this matter. What if she also liked him? The thought almost suffocated him.
And then her reply came after a few days and she had written she told him no as she didn't like him much. The relief and happiness he felt was immeasurable. He had almost done a happy dance reading it. Then again came the questioning himself phase. Why was he getting so happy at this, he really didn't have any reasoning anymore but was still in denial, he just couldn't accept the fact that he was getting jealous and possessive over her. He couldn't come to terms with these feelings. And then he did something which made him reach a new level of stupidity. He thought maybe being in touch with her constantly was making him like this, if he just distances himself a little all his feelings will go away. It was so very intelligent of you!! haina anirudh, he thought and laughed. How could he have been such a hopeless case!!
And with his newfound theory he stopped replying to her letters and even stopped talking to her on phone for sometime citing some reason or the other. But as days passed it became difficult, it suffocated him not to talk to her, not hear her but he stretched it till a point where it became unbearable to him so much so that he realised this couldn't continue like this. He was just hurting himself and probably her too by driving her away and started to talk to her again. But now he couldn't deny anymore to himself. He simply resigned himself to the fact that he was hopelessly in love with Bondita and there wasn't much he could do about it. The girl he brought in his life just to save her from evil customs had become the love of his life. He just stopped fighting with himself and made peace with this fact.
However he never told her anything. He didn't want to burden her with his feelings or this relationship which she didn't even get into in her full consciousness. He wanted her to enjoy her life just like ahe would if he hadn't married her because he always had the guilt of snatching away her childhood. He had thought he would tell her probably when she completes her study and comes back for good. But what if she didn't feel the same for him? Afterall he himself made it clear many times with his behaviour that they were nothing more than friends. So she would really not be at any fault, if she too doesn't want to be in this marriage. But would he be able to let her go? He wasn't sure of the answer and scared of even that possibility of her going away.
A breeze of cold air from the window brought him back to the present. He again thought of what batuk told him. But what should he do now? Should he clarify to her about mini or just let her make her own conclusions. And why was she feeling so upset? Was it because he didn't tell her about it? Or did she think he still had something in his heart for mini? He reflected over what happened today over lunch. She was so angry he was taking mini with him. Was she jealous? A small smile crept on his face at the last sentence...
