It was 3 o'clock at night, the entire Howrah station was as noiseless as a mouse. Some men were sleeping on the platform some were sleeping on the bench. The silence of the station was disrupted by the rumbling sound of the train which was arriving on platform no. 9. Soon the train came to a halt and when the train's whistled stopped a tall man in his mid twenties stepped down the train. He was wearing a big black coat with grey waistcoat and white shirt. The black fedora was concealing his eyes. In one hand he had a suitcase and in the other he held a cigar. The man was looking here and there searching for someone.
"aniruddh dada'' an old man called from the back. He turned around to see him running towards him, he threw the cigar away and as soon as the man came near him he took off his hat revealing his handsome face. Anirudh was a well-build man with striking facial features, his sharp jawline and deep black eyes would make any girl go weak on her knees but despite of being so charming he was not much into girls for his true love was music and therefore the shy young lad had dedicated his entire life to music. But little did he know that the city of Joy, was going to change him forever.
'Namaskaar'' he said politely.
'namaskaar namaskaar...main hari kaka apke ghar ka care-taker'' said the old man
'hai mujhe pata hai baba ne apke bare mein likkha tha ek chitthi mein''
'oh tab toh bariya hai...ap yeh saman mujhe dedo aur chaalo''
Soon the two reached their house. It was Ani's ancestral house but after his parent's demise no one lived there except for hari kaka. It was a two-storey white bunglow with a huge green windows and Juliet balconies. There was a big lawn in front of the house. While hari kaka was opening the main gate, Anirudh noticed a big white neo-classical mansion just in front of his house. It had huge Corinthian pillars and broad windows. Just beside the gold gate there was a big name plate which said 'Thakur Dalan''. He looked curiously at the house, there was something about it which made him very inquisitive.
'dada chalo'' said Hari kaka after opening the gate. They walked through the lawn and entered the house. As soon as they entered the house Aditya scanned the entire house and finally his eyes stopped at a portrait. He went near it and touched it very lovingly.
'Dada aur boudi (bhabi) bohut acha tha'' said hari kaka
'hmm ' he nodded
'aap unke guzar jaane ke baad pehli baar aya hai na idhar?''
'haa..6 saal baad. Calcutta ki bohut yaad a rahi thi isiliye ageya''
'Dada hotei tou apko lekar itna gorbo (proud) korten...kitna bara gayak baan geya aap'' said hari kaka with a huge smile
He turned around and smiled at him.
That day in the afternoon Aniruddh was sitting in his balcony trying to write a new song. He was lost in his work when it suddenly started to rain. He put down his pen and paper on the side table and went near the railing. The smell of the rain and the cool breeze made him feel all peaceful. He was looking around when something or should say someone, in the Thakur Dalan caught his attention. A short thin girl suddenly came out of the house and was hurriedly collecting mangoes that were scattered in the lawn. She took as many she could and ran inside. The girl was wearing a deep magenta saree but Aniruddh couldn't see her face. Suddenly she came out again and this time she was not alone there were other women and children with her, she had brought all of them outside to dance with her in the rain. He tried very hard to see her face but from such a distance he couldn't see her. But he really wanted to see her and even he didn't know why, so after failing to hold his curiosity any longer Aniruddh ran downstairs. He went out of his house and stood in front of the 'Thakur Dalan''. Through the gaps of the Iron Gate grill he tried to see her. And finally when he did, her beauty struck him like a thunder bolt.
She was the most beautiful creature he had ever seen, her sparkling eyes and thick black hair took his heart away. He was so lost in her that he didn't even blink when a passing rickshaw splashed mud water on his face and chest. He stood there like a maniac and kept staring at her.
'Aniruddh dada '' Hari kaka came infront of him and was calling him loudly but even his words were not reaching aniruddh 's ears. Then hari kaka held his hand and dragged him inside the house but he kept on looking at her. How could he divert himself afterall It was love at first sight for him.
