His look was hypnotic. Strangely exhilarating. Aditi's breath caught in her throat as he scraped along her finger, his mouth warm and moist. Butterfly wings brushed at her stomach. His teeth tugged gently at her gold engagement ring. The sensation was so erotic, she shivered. She stared up at him for a long moment, completely fascinated, before remembering to pull her hand free.
"Tell me about that man, honey," he commanded with a little touch of desperation, his voice low, almost purring.
He touched her hair very gently, with great care. She was fighting the compulsion to tell him what he wanted to know, but she was a weak woman and he was a man, one in a long line of dominating males. He was far too strong for her to resist. Aditi pressed her palm protectively over her heart, trying to stop in from revealing her true desire. The wind whipped down the street, gusted leaves and debris into whirling eddies. Unknowingly, she moved deeper into the shelter of his body. "A few months before my parents had a car accident, my parents got me engaged to Karan." She stopped speaking abruptly, her throat closing on the name.
Karan. The name pierced him like a knife. The way she said it, the pain reflected in her eyes, told him how much damaged that man had caused to his better-half. Karan. Bharat had never liked that name. He didn't want to hear any more; he didn't want to hear the sound of her voice when she said that hated name.
Aditi twisted her engagement ring nervously. "He had a difficult childhood, so I suppose that made him a little different." She stole a quick look up at him from her heavy dark lashes. She didn't want to explain to him what that word meant. She didn't know him, didn't know why she seemed to trust him when he was a virtual stranger to her. She didn't know why her body seemed to know him. Crave him. Aditi shoved her wayward thoughts away, concentrating entirely on how much she could tell him or not tell him.
Bharat examined her face, wanting an explanation of "different." Bharat watched her fingers turn that small gold ring. With every touch, every stroke, his stomach knotted tighter and tighter. He tried to force his gaze back to her face, but that small betraying movement fascinated him. Aditi shrugged her shoulders. "To make a long story short, Karan and I were engaged and he is missing from past few months. I found out later that he was involved in illegal business and I helped him escape from the cops. I haven't said anything to Teema because...well..." She hesitated, searching for the right words.
That brought his dark gaze back to her face. She felt the impact of his focused stare all the way to her bones. His hands covered hers, stilling the nervous play of her fingers over her ring. Her heart, leapt a curious sensation that alarmed her. His black eyes never left her face. Not once. And he still hadn't blinked. "mujhay saanpon se der lagta hai, I hope app koi eecha dhari naag nai hain.... please mujhay bata dain iss liay ke inn sandals main bhagna thora mushkil hai...I'm scared of snakes, I hope you are one of shapshifter snake...please tell me...because it's a bit difficult to run in these sandals." Aditi tried to clear out the pressure building in her and clearly in Bharat, as well. "Or ager main hoon bhi to tumhain kiun bataoon? Abb to tum kahin nai ja saktin...and why should I tell you even if I were one? You can't escape now'" Bharat tried to play along as he could tell that it's getting difficult for her to talk about something she rather not. "Hey Naag deveta assa na kerain, main abhi jeena chahati hoon...Oh Lord Serpent, please don't do that, I want to live'" Aditi put on a fake pitifull face. "theek hai do shertoon per' pehali tum mujh se APP keh ker baat nai kero gi, or dusri' tum bohut lumbi zindagi jeo gi per merey sath'wasay main saanp nai hoon per ankhain jhapkate der lagta hay ke tum chali jao gi... Okay, on 2 conditions: first , you will stop being so formal while talking to me, and second, you will live a long life but with me...by the way I'm not a snake, I'm just afraid that you'll go away if I blinked." Bharat put her head over his heart and said "suno kia ker dia hai tum ne... listen what you have done."
She repeated her mistake and looked up in his eyes, she felt almost as if she were falling forward into those strange, hypnotic eyes. Why was she so drawn to him, why was she telling him her story? Her chin lifted again and she looked at him almost defiantly. "I have a heart condition." He could run like a rabbit and she'd be very happy. He was a complication, a fantasy, the worst sort of "bad boy," and she wanted no part of him, though her heart begged to differ, altogether. Bharat rubbed the bridge of his nose thoughtfully, his eyes intent on her face "So what have to done to fix that problem, and Teema doesn't know that either, right?"
"You look very healthy to have a heart problem, how long have you been holding it to yourself?" Bharat was genuinely concerned. "I'm all right Bharat! Teema is already doing a lot for me, I can't take her for granted" Aditi tried to pull her mind and body from him. "Bhagwan na kare per ager tumhain kahin kuch ho jay, tab bhi to usse pata chale ga na, tum samjh nai rahi... kuch logon ki zindagi tum se juri hui hay... tum akeli nai ho, Aditi!...she would find out, God forbid, If something happen to you....you are not getting it... your life is attached to some people, you are not alone, Aditi!" His voice was still as gentle as ever, yet it had an effect on her she couldn't seem to shake. He sounded almost as if he were reprimanding her in some way and assessing what he was going to do about the situation.
Aditi felt compelled to answer him, although it wasn't what she wanted. "My heart has enough trouble working for just me, let alone..." she conceded reluctantly. Her fingers once again found the circle of gold and began to twist, a nervous habit betraying her inner turmoil. Bharat nodded his head even as his entire body knotted in protest against that small action. "And your fiance'?He forced the words out despite the fact they wanted to stick in his throat. "What about his reaction to this situation, is he at least bothered by it." He couldn't help his bitterness, he reached out and caught her hand, pulling her palm to his chest, right over his heart, effectively stopping her from touching the ring again, and thinking if he could trade his healthy heart with hers.
Aditi's gaze flew to his. Electricity arced between them. The air sizzled with the charge. She found it difficult to think with his black eyes mesmerizing her and his touch scattering her senses. Discussing Karan with him should have been impossible, yet she found the words tumbling out. "He was the one who thought I should get checked, he said my symptoms are shouting, heart problem."
"And you listen to that so called doctor." He made it a statement.
Aditi felt that same desire to confess every detail. Normally, she confided in Teema and no one else. Why on earth was she telling a virtual stranger her every secret. And why is she hiding in his chest like a scared little girl. "He was so concerned about me, since after my parents' death, my blood pressure would drop more often, anxiety attaches, losing apatite, and I complained heartache. Dr. said that it often happens when a person is under extreme depression; stress and pain of losing loved ones, improper diet, and not enough of sleep. But Karan never believed them; he took me to another Dr. that happened to be his friend, and advised me strongly to take the medication he prescribed." She withdrew herself. "This is hardly something you would want to hear about."
"On the contrary, I'm extremely interested. Every thing about you interests me."
PART-5:
"Aditi!" Teema burst from the building with VJ one step behind her. She was obviously upset, her beautiful face betraying her anxiety. "Aditi, are you alright? I'm so sorry, I should have been paying more attention." She clutched Aditi's purse protectively to her.
"I'm perfectly fine, Teema." Aditi answered immediately. She stepped away from Bharat, but somehow he moved too in a ripple of power so that he was sheltering her body from the rising wind. Aditi looked up at his chiseled features and found her heart in her throat again. What was it about him? How could he so easily rob my breath and sanity with only a look? A moment? Why is he not affected by my heart condition, what does he want from me?
"We were just talking away from the noise," Bharat drawled, smiling lazily, his teeth very white in the darkness. As Teema reached close, she was shocked to see Aditi and Bharat almost glued together, but that killing smile of Bharat made her forget that she is not walking on a ramp. She tripped as she had stepped on a little rock, Bharat gently caught her from falling. "I got you, are you alright, Teema" Bharat asked with a friendly smile. "Please stop smiling, I've fallen already, and were you talking to me" Teema was acting all childish being held by him. "Come on Teema you can't possibly dislike my friend's smile, and you haven't fall, and since there's only one Teema here, yes he was talking to you" VJ woke her up from her most sweetest dream. Teema bend down to compose her thoughts, pretending to fix her shoe.
The two women exchange a quick glance, rolling their eyes in complete accord while Aditi stifled a groan. How could any man be real and look and act like he did? Aditi mouthed "bad boy" at Teema, making her laugh. Teema leaned close to whisper, "Only you could look at a man too sexy to be on earth and reduce his incredible beauty to bad boy." Aditi felt herself a fraud. As she knew exactly what Teema was saying. She even briefly wondered if his songs, his voice, or his warmth might have somehow hypnotized her.
Bharat reached out and casually removed Aditi's purse from Teema's hand, then gave it to Aditi. His eyes moved possessively over Aditi's face as he watched her pull a small container from her purse and swallow a tiny pill. With the same easy strength he always exhibited, he took Aditi's wrist and asked if he could have one of her pill. "I would like to see what medication you are taking, maybe there is something better than this one."
Teema tossed her highlighted hair. "At last! Someone with a little sense, unlike Aditi, she never listens to anyone. I've been asking her to change her meds since they make her condition even worse. ."
A small sensual smile tugged at the hard edge of Bharat's mouth, he leaned down close to Aditi so his warm breath stirred tendrils of hair at her temple. "You do not listen to others?"
"I'm perfectly capable of making my own decisions," Aditi informed him, her voice faintly haughty when all she really wanted to do was tough his mouth with her fingertips. Up close he robbed her breath. Of good sense.
"Until now," Bharat corrected with infinite gentleness. His voice was very soft and, like velvet, it whispered sensuously over her skin, making her shiver. He brought her hand up to his perfectly molded mouth, and kissed the pads of her fingers. Her heart shuttered; butterfly wings brushed at her stomach. For a moment she could only stare at him, lost in his magic. She dragged her gaze from his, withdrew her hand to curl her fingers into her palm.
VJ stared up at Bharat in total shock. He had never seen Bharat exhibit the slightest interest in any woman. Now Bharat's body language shouted that he felt protective, even possessive, of Aditi. VJ felt the need of taking Bharat away from Aditi, and to get his act together, besides he had stalked the poor girl enough. "Perhaps we had better get the ladies out of the wind." Bharat drawled. "Bharat mujhe lagta hei raat kafi ho gai hai or achi bache deyr tak bahir nai rehate....or lerkian to bilkul bhi nai....humain inhain safly se inn ki car tak chore ker aana chahiay....Bharat I think its already late now and good children don't stay out that long especially girls.....lets escort them to their car, safe n sound."
She shivered in reaction. At once Bharat drew her into the shelter of his arms. "I should have realized it was too cold out here for you," he said softly, apologetically, his breath warm against her neck. His body was hot and hard against her satin softness of her cool skin. "I was being selfish, wanting you to myself."
Teema found herself leading the men to her small sports car, wondering why it was so important to get Aditi out of the wind. Bharat kept possession of Aditi, handing her carefully into the front seat. "You take very good care of yourself; I will see you very soon." He said it softly, his eyes suddenly on Teema's face. Teema blinked and blurted out her address, something she would never normally do. Aditi stared at her in horror. Teema clapped a hand over her mouth guiltily and watched as Bharat reached casually acrossed Aditi to buckle her seat belt.
Hard and defined with muscle, his body brushed Aditi's. He smelled of spice and woods, totally masculine. His chin nuzzled Aditi's hair. "I'm not a serial killer, although it is nice to know you have some instinct of self-preservation."
He closed the door on her shocked expression, his arrogant, bad boy grin very much in evidence. Teema put her head down on the steering wheel. "Don't say it, Aditi. I don't know what I was thinking, giving him our address like that. He's just... I don't know, too much. I couldn't think straight for a minute there with his eyes staring at me as if he could read right through me. I'm sorry, you don't think he's some kind of crazy person, do you?"
"I think we are the crazy ones." It was relief to be away from the potency of Bharat's company. He made Aditi feel out of control. Spinning madly. Wild. Sexy. Wanting. "And he did point out he wasn't a serial killer. That was a comforting news, unless serial killers regularly make such statements to strange women."
Both of the women dissolved into laugher, dispelling most of the tension in the car. Aditi found she could breathe again, think again, and the more she thought the more she cursed her self for active so strangely. "So you are looking at VJ, because he's certainly looking at you." Aditi rubbed her palms up and down her arms over the exact spot Bharat's arms had held her. Oddly she could still feel him close to her. She could smell his scent on her, and it was strangely comforting.
"I really think VJ is great," Teema admitted. "you know how I hate being the decorative doll on the big guy's arm. He didn't make me feel like that at all, not once. He's nice, Aditi. Very nice. And when I realize you were gone, he was so sweet, reassuring me that Bharat wasn't a playboy preying on women. The truth is, I panicked. I don't feel comfortable when you're out of my sight anymore." She threw Aditi a quick, mischievous grin. "I sound like I'm two and afraid to leave my mommy... VJ's cute but not in kiddy way." She tugged on Aditi's sleeve. "And what was that?"
"What was what?" Aditi tried to sound innocent, but a blush slowly crept up her neck into her face.
"You know exactly what I mean," Teema accused, her eyes laughing. "That dance."
"Oh, that." Aditi pushed both hands through her mass of gleaming hair and lifted it off her neck, the gesture curiously sexy. "That was scorching."
Teema let out a whistle. "Scorching? Not just hot?"
Aditi shook her head solemnly. "Absolutely, totally scorching. That man is lethal and shouldn't be allowed to live anywhere near the female population." "I'm a believer. You've always been immune to men. If he can scorch you, he should definately be locked up somewhere."
