Part 2
Sitting hand in hand, Santo leaned on his shoulder more and more. Looking at the tress passing by and women working on the farms, she took in the scenery while DM rested his chin on her head and looked in the same direction. Secretly, they wished the ride would never end. Snuggling closer, she was all ready to give him a kiss on his chin when she looked around them and realised that though the bus was not full of people, it would not be proper to indulge in such public display of affection..
Suddenly the bus stopped at the next stop. DM looked at her whether they had arrived or not and she said no. He settled back into his seat and noticed that a lot of people were boarding on this stop and soon there were going to be no vacant seats in the bus. He tried to act normally but people looked at him in awe as word spread soon that he was none other than Dharamraj Mahiyavanshi who was travelling in the same bus as they. He now had a sheepish smile on his face and avoided direct eye contact with anyone. Santo, on the other hand, was enjoying the attention that they were getting because everyone knew him and basked in his glory. He gave her a dimply smile, exasperated but happy and content with the smile on her face...
Nothing much happened during the next few minutes before they had to wait again for the next stop. A middle aged woman, around her 30s stepped on to the bus with a baby in her arms. Looking around, she was sad that there was no seat left on the bus. She moved down the middle aisle of the bus.. scanning for a vacant seat. As soon as he spotted her, he gently let go of Santo's hand from his and stood up from his seat, gesturing the lady to sit in his place instead. The lady, who did not recognise him as the malik of Dharampur first refused but then when he insisted, she thanked him profusely and sat down. There was a look of disagreement on Santo's face. DM smiled at her gently, as if telling her what he did was right..
Mentally,
Santo knew what her husband did was right.. but for that moment, this deed of his had separated them and robbed her of some more moments they would have spent together in this journey and which is why she had made that disagreeable face. Why did he have to be so righteous? Why did he have to be so perfect? She looked at him as he stood in the aisle just like a common man… but only she knew.. he was so special .. so loveable. She wondered if he knew.. and smiled to herself.
To be Contd..
