Hi Everyone,

By reading the updates, it seems that Santu is placed in circumstances not of her own design. Malik has used and done away with her (I am imagining a makhi landing on his moustache😆).
His family members including his fave BIL have all insulted her.
My question:
What fuels this dislike or hatred for the new addition to the family? It is obviously a prejudice as they do not even know her.
Is it caste based? or do they see her presence as a threat to their monetary prospectus? After all, man is known to succumb to seduction (time, place, circumstance) and it could result in a possible heir. Besides just being a wife entitles one to a share of wealth.

Many serials have used caste differences as a platform for prejudice and many more wealth status.

How is it in the real world as it relates to you and me. The Indians who live in conservative society, the indians who are more open-minded mainly referring to the city dwellers, the indians who live abroad and the indians who are foreigners who are indians by descent, how much of these kind of prejudices are relevant to us.

Would love to hear your views and experiences as it relates to you wherever in the world you are from.

Thank you.

It is a very difficult question to answer. Many families in India are moneyed stays in the cities, looks progressive but can be very conservative. I have never been to the west but I guess there might be similar people out there too. I cannot even say that educated people are above caste or prejudices of socially downtrodden as there are enough examples that they are not....but then again education does reduce some of these prejudices.
I think the main thing is how you are brought up, how is the atmosphere in your house, how much your family is liberal, once you group up in that atmosphere I guess you will also spread that when you have your own family.....love Tin

This is when I was ten....I was born in Africa and had gone to India for couple of years. My best friend at school was Shah....her family had temporarily moved from city to the village.

I used to go to her house on my way to school so we could go to school together. I was never allowed to go inside her house for obvious reason, that the purity of the house would be broken by someone of the lower class stepping in. I had to wait for her outside on the porch. Yet in my grandma's house, the lady who would come to help out was from the untouchable caste...yet she was given tea and food to eat...would sit with my grandma and talk.

I too felt being treated differently when I was young because I was not Brahmin. My so called friends in my own class, it wasn't blatant, but I felt it because I was dark and from a lower caste that I wasn't their equal. As I got older it didn't matter so much. I made true friends.

Thank you Tintiny, Divan and Maragathm for sharing your views and personal experiences.
I agree that education and upbringing are vital to forming our prejudices. Though I never realized personally the differential treatment afforded to different castes, I have mostly experienced race based discrimination. Living in a multiracial society, caste differences are downplayed and the indian community sees members banding together against marriages to other races and religions more of a threat.
But one thing I noticed, with time, money is becoming the greatest discriminator. People are willing to overlook everything for cash benefits.
I believe in Kalyuga, everyone is on equal platforms and its your actions that determine your caste not your birthright.

Thank you once again for sharing your views.
