It is very easy to preach others to have prefer what is right over blood relationships. But when the choice comes to you yourself, relationships somewhat blind you off. Shiv lecturing people who did bad deeds for their families' sake or those who covered up the bad deeds of their family members seemed so fake when he just stopped Jagdish from explaining the reason for him breaking the engagement and mentioning that this didn't give him the right to ruin his sister's life.
Did he have any sort of guarantee that what Saanchi said in front of her friends was a lie and what she told them was the truth? There have been quite a few instances of her lying to them and all got easily ignored before his loving sister's tears (genuine, crocodile, whatever).
Just because it was "his" sister under the scanner, all principles flew out of the window about values, woman emancipation, right-or-wrong or as simple as listening to everyone's side of the story.
I will not say that I never expected this from him because we have never seen him react to a situation where he had to choose between the happiness of a family member and welfare of someone not so close.
