Useful Information for women for Health, Molestation & Marriage and Related laws

Dear People,

In last few months I have started writing FFs and in the mean process found many useful information for women which everyone among us should know. I sincerely thank some of the AT members who have helped me in finding some of these stuff.

I felt like sharing it all with you.

Information regarding STDs(Sexually transmitted diseases)

STDs can be spread during vaginal, oral and anal sexual contact with an infected person. Skin to skin contact with the mouth or genitals can spread certain STDs, even if penetration did not occur.
Reference - http://www.mckinley.illinois.edu/handouts/sexually_transmitted_infections.html

They even affect the partner and the child to be born who could be deformed.

People, I have sent you only few very sophisticated pictures, if I send you the really ugly ones you can not eat, drink or sleep for a whole week.

In western countries the awareness is more and the my colleagues who were indulged in one night stands and casual sex without commitment used to visit the doctor for a regular STD check up every 3 months. Even little boys and gals were trained in school for this. But Alas, in India there is least awareness. People think that merely using a condom or pills you are safe against all. Even in TV they talk only about HIV whereas I find Hepatitis B as a deadlier STD than AIDS as HIV virus might remain dormant in a person for years together.

Even in some biggest hospitals in the world doctors don't admit an HIV and deadly STD patients coming for delivery. The related news keeps on coming in newspapers from time to time. I really wonder when people are so much concerned regarding their eating and drinking habits how they could be so much ignorant regarding the safe sexual practices.

Nowadays many STDs could be curable if you do regular check up. However even 50/100 years back people used to die out of them. If you read history, many well-known kings in past used to suffer from STDs due to this reason.

HIV in India

STDs like HIV spread in India so rapidly. Why? Well I would say mostly due to lack of awareness and carelessness. Today 2.4 millions of Indians are living with HIV only as per official records. This includes 930,000 women. The vast majority of HIV infections in India occur through sexual transmission (85.6 per cent)

i would like to add that we should also use caution when going for very common beauty treatments (threading, waxing etc)...should go to only reputed parlours that maintain certain hygiene standards..and use disposable instruments...got this additional info from a doctor friend of mine.

Thanks Debbie,

My small Contribution to your efforts.

1091, toll-free helpline for women in distress, across Maharashtra

Police commissioners and SPs made responsible for calls received in their jurisdictions

The toll-free number, 1091, meant to help women in distress, is now functional across the state. Post the Guwahati molestation incident, the plan to have the number accessible to women across Maharashtra was mooted in the Legislative Council. The move was necessitated given the rise in crime against women in the state. Of the 45 police units in the state, 32 have a person each attending to these calls.

The initiative was proposed in October last year but was implemented only in Mumbai and Thane. Also, the number was different for these cities. Post the tie-up with Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) recently, 1091 was allotted as a toll-free number for the entire state.

The number was mooted as per the recommendations by a panel headed by retired justice Chandrashekhar Dharmadhikari. The panel had also suggested amendments to Sections 354 (molestation) and 509 (act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the IPC. In the recent session, home minister RR Patil assured the Council that necessary steps have been taken to protect women's rights in the state and ensure justice for victims.

Deputy commissioner of Women and Child Welfare Department Ravi Patil said the number would help register more cases and the department will help by intervening and suggesting action. "The Women and Child Welfare Department will be in touch with the Home Department for any assistance after such incidents are reported. We can provide the list of counseling centers, shelter homes and short-stay homes to the department. This information has also been passed on to the Inspector General (Protection of Women),'' said Patil.

According to the Home Department, as soon as the call is received, it is directed to the respective police station in the district. The Superintendents of Police and commissioners of the districts are responsible for cases in their jurisdiction.
