12 TV actors replaced in last two months!
Pratyusha Banerjee

Actors being replaced in TV shows is a regular occurrence these days. It's another matter that the audience ends up feeling confused about the new faces that keep popping up in their favourite shows. Here's a ready reckoner on who replaced whom in recent times.

Toral Rasputra replaces Pratyusha Banerjee (Balika Vadhu - Kacchi Umar Ke Pakke Rishte)
Why: There was no clarity about the exact reason for Pratyusha Banerjee to quit the show which made her a household name overnight. Apparently she was unable to commit the required time for hectic shoot schedules and had health issues.

Has the replacement worked? After a rocky start, Toral Rasputraseems to be settling in the show and the TRPs are back on track. Of course her screen chemistry with Siddharth Shukla is still not as scorching as Pratyusha's used to be, but may be that too will improve with time!

Dheeraj Dhoopar replaces Shoaib Ibrahim (Sasural Simar Ka)
Why: Shoaib Ibrahim decided to step out of Sasural Simar Ka after one and half years because he was not happy with his track and the way the show's entire focus was on the female leads. After complaining about lack of screen time, a disgruntled Shoaib called it quits.

Has the replacement worked? Dheeraj Dhoopar has a more charming screen presence and the TRPs are stable.

Laad Singh Maan and Dilkhush replaced Gurcharan Singh and Jennifer Mistry (Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah)
Why: Jennifer was pregnant and did not inform the production house, while Gurucharan's tantrums irked the producers no end. Finally both characters were replaced recently by a new pair of actors.

Has the replacement worked? Considering the show's success rests on the shoulders of Dilip Joshi and Disha Vakani, other characters rarely have any other role to play in fetching the TRPs!

Rishabh Sharma replaces Raj Bhanushali (Jai Jai Bajrangbali)
Why: Raj Bhanushali who'd become the face of the show was unable to cope with his studies and hectic shoot schedules and had to move on. The show took an early leap, the storyline changed overnight so that Rishabh could step into Raj's shoes.

Has the replacement worked? The jury's not out on this one!

Tarun Khanna replaces Manish Wadhwa (Devon Ke Dev... Mahadev) [as Ravan]
Why: Health issues forced Manish to quit the show. Also the fact that he'd signed a project on another GEC just 10-15 days after he started shooting for Mahadev... meant he didn't have time to work on his 'look'. The channel refused to take a chance and replaced him with Tarun.

Has the replacement worked? Considering Manish is a powerful performer, Tarun has a tough act to follow.

Barkha Bisht Sengupta replaces Rupali Ganguly (Parvarrish - Kuchh Khatti Kuchh Meethi)
Why: After doing Parvarrish... Kuchh Khatti Kuchh Meethi for almost 18 months, Rupali Ganguly who tied the knot with long term business beau Ashwin Verma early this year, quit the show to take a maternity break. Barkha Bisht was chosen after a round of 'look tests'.

Has the replacement worked? The show has recently taken a two year leap and Barkha's been given a mature look to fit in the role of a mom of teenagers.

Anuj Sachdeva replaces Farhan Khan (Chhanchan)
Why: Model Farhan Khan became the most talked about debutant when he landed the lead role opposite Sanaya Irani, after beating hotties like Arjun Bijlani, Mohit Sehgal and Vishal Karwalwho had screentested for the same. Farhan cut a sorry figure right from the word go, was unable to create any chemistry with Sanaya and the TRPs hit new lows each week. Finally, he was shown the door and Anuj has been brought in.

Has the replacement worked? Anuj has a tough task in hand: first to create chemistry with Sanaya (considering her sizzling vibes with former co-star Barun Sobti) and then rake in TRPs. Does the audience care anymore?

Aman Verma replaces Milind Gunaji (Hum Ne Li Hai... Shapath)
Why: Milind Gunaji had taken up lots of TV and film projects and was unable to devote enough time to the show. Finally, the channel and Milind amicably parted way.
Has the replacement worked? The show's TRPs seem to have improved since Aman's entry, so the makers might be a relieved lot.

Ravi Dubey replaces Mohit Malhotra (India's Dancing Superstar)
Why: Reality TV star Mohit Malhotra might have enjoyed his share of female fan following, but as an anchor he fell short of expectations and lacked spontaneity. The producers replaced him a few days ago with the easygoing Ravi Dubey who also happens to be Mohit's close friend!

Has the replacement worked: Ravi's screen chemistry with co-host Aishwarya Sakhuja might work in his favour, plus the fact that he's also a fabulous dancer himself and is easy on the eye.

Vikrant Massey replaces Rishabh Sinha (Qubool Hai)
Why: Reality TV find Rishabh Sinha was rumoured to have been acting too big for his boots ever since he signed up for Qubool Hai. His unprofessional behaviour reached a new low when he went on to do Subhash Ghai's Kaanchi, inspite of having an 'exclusivity' contract with the channel. The channel has slapped a legal notice against Rishabh for breach of contract and sacked him.

Has the replacement worked? After a round of auditions with top TV stars, Vikrant Massey got lucky. The TRPs are so far steady. Only flamboyant and flirty Ayaan seems to have metamorphosed into an angry young man on the show!

Aamir Ali replaces Pankaj Tiwari (Jhilmil Sitaaron Ka Aangan Hoga)
Why: The production house decided to revamp the entire story line to garner more viewership when the male lead was unable to generate any interest in the show. Almost overnight Pankaj was replaced by Aamir Ali. While Pankaj wasn't keen on leaving the show, the creative team was in no mood to humour him.

Has the replacement worked? Not so far. The TRPs continue to be as dismal as ever!

This is one article I read last night that seems a good fit here:

http://scrutinybykhimaanshu.blogspot.in/2013/06/tv-actors-work-in-unimaginable.html

---

I think 12 replacements in a mere span of 2 months is enough to reflect the miserable state of the TV industry. And even stranger is that out of these 12, about 4-5 have quit coz of health issues due to hectic schedules.Indeed its sad.Acc to Indian as well as European labor laws, any kind of worker should only have a maximum 10 working hrs a day if hes to remain in good health. And as Ronit has himself said, 12 hrs is just a no.,...most tv actors have to work for 14-16 hrs a day.

I wish the makers one day understand that quality is more important than quantity. 4/5 epis(a week) of a good storyline are anyday better than a dragged senseless story airing 6 days a week.A good show coming to a logical end in 1 to 2 years is far far better than dragging a good show to a illogical crap in 5-6 years and then ending it on the most unrealistic and illogical note.

Its indeed miserable that the makers don't understand their own good. Dont u/stand that if they wrap up a story in a good and timely manner, and air their show for 4/5 days a week(thats pretty reasonable), probably there will be least replacements, better shows, quality performances and more satisfied audiences.I doubt we can blame an actor if hes made to work in filthy conditions for 14 hrs a day for 3 long years without much break than a weekend holiday and that too on a crappy storyline where hes to do the same things for years.

And seriously if the makers dont change this attitude, that day isnt far when ppl will completely lose interest in television of this kind(which we already can witness from trend of trps). It's high time they u/stand that the viewers put a lot of emotions in the story and the characters and if they don't stop playing with the viewer's emotions, they would surely be at an utter loss!

even i have noticed these replacements...i was quiet shocked...almost all serials have got replacement and Punar Vivah has replaced his whole cast for new season
SSK replacement hardly matters because the last Prem and present Prem looks similar
From what i saw Barkha is doing good in Parvarish...the worst for me is replacment happened is in BV...it's not working for me...first i was positive about it because Toral was indeed showing improvement and even tracks were good enough to watch (and Shiv had screen space) but now with such terrible tracks and no Sid i am losing my patience to even watch Toral...and she is getting down with every scene (specially done with Sid)...Shashank and Sriti are my only hope to make BV watchable

Punar Vivah doing a revamp was a good idea.Because they kept the concept and theme the same and brought the story of new characters with it.With this even the actors got a break and the story came to a logical end w/o leaving a sour taste in the audience's mouth. And to add to it,they didnt even lose on the theme and message they wanted to convey.A revamp with a fresh cast is one of many innovative ideas our industry needs today.I really wish PV2 works out well so that others can realize its time for change.

good article and thanks for sharing it...from the TRPs and many of these replacement one can totally agree that drama serials are not working much now...almost all are becoming a drag with some having no sense in their story...and since the story is not good even actors are losing interest in acting in such shows...the problem with indian T.V serials are that they restrict their leads to do anything new...many actors are losing good oppurtunities to do something different...celebrities taking part in reality show have to either leave the show or the show has to compromise it's storyline or actor's health...i think it's high time that we, as audience and loyal viewers, should complain about the telecast schedule of shows rather than the contents of any show...trust me if we really love our serial and their actors then we will be doing a great favour on them by telling BCCC to cut short the days of telecast and show every serial in seasons or at leas the daily soaps (drama genre)

there was a time when almost all k shows on starplus had 20 plus trps!...after more then a decade...the highest trps re barely.5 or 6...of top most shows...it actually shows that audience too are getting irritated with such storyline...i dont see any change in the type of content we are shown...so called fresh shows become usual saas bahu dramas...serials airing 6 or 7 days a week n all those maha episodes...naturally the actors get affected n they too lose interest..

content of tv has degraded a lot...there has been some really good shows like hasratein..saans..banegi apni baat...they had quality n something out of the box...but i think the audience too is to blame..y are crap shows like DABH...n saathiya popular?...nd quality shows attempted by yash raj a failure?...

hmph...😡

Oh mu god ...you reminded me of such great shows...I was barely a teenager then but I remember these shows they were amazing...then came an era where most of the half hour was spent by focusing the camera dramatically on every characters face three times...the shows like that have completely ruined the quality of what is being made today...we dont need the shows 6 times a week...4 times is fine and actors deserve three days break after giving 16 hours each dayAngry
TM...thank you for the article it is so accurate...but for me I ahve stopped wtching BV adn sometimes just read WU
