The guy had me when he said the below in an interview.
"Honestly? I don't like television or the way it is handled. It is a factory, a machine where actors after a while are not even expected to act but to just deliver because the episode has to be finished. I am fortunate that I work with a sensitive creative team but I wish the television industry would get rid of the pressure to complete episodes, and get into the format of seasons. I wish, it would not pull you down and give you time to develop and grow. The rut can kill you."
@BOLD: Touche.
He is totally awesome for speaking out on the stupidity of the industry. The market needs to be opened up...the monopoly that is occurring in this industry is ridiculous...felt that the whole digitization process is suppose to be the beginning of that process...I really hope we get to see results in the coming years with markets diversifying and different consumer demands. That would lead to more shows and channels catering to specific tastes as they do in other countries.
And as for the actors, seriously better working hours might occur when you have a plethora of options that quality can NOT be AFFORD to be compromised for the sake of quantity. A healthy balance is needed so badly it's not even funny...I mean honestly if actors could find quality work and reasonable working hours, why would they ever want to leave television to pursue Bollywood??? I mean yes some may still want to pursue, but still, television would not be looked down on as it currently is since quality content always takes a hit in the pursuit of making money/TRPs.
Forget about quality work...it's just basic human rights to treat your employees with respect and care, not like machines.
