The show must go on

Audiences who invest their time, energy and emotions in a show, feel cheated due to abrupt changes.

Recently, Pratyusha Banerjee quit Balika Vadhu, a show that made her a household name. Although the news shocked many, it isn't the first time that the lead actor of a popular show stepped down at a time when the show's TRPs and his or her own fame was at its peak.

Pratyusha says it was hectic schedules that led to her decision, but rumours claim she's eyeing films.

Years ago, actor Amar Upadhyay quit Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi when it was at its peak. The reason he said, was that he didn't want to play a dad as the show took a leap. Interestingly, instead of taking up another show, he tried his luck in Bollywood. He couldn't prove his mettle in movies and his subsequent return to the small screen was also lacklustre.

There are many more such cases. When Barun Sobti quit Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon, the show went off air while he jumped on to the Bollywood bandwagon. Giaa Manek left Saath Nibhaana Saathiya after being the popular Gopi bahu for over two years to be part of the dance reality show, Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa on another channel. Sushant Singh Rajput too left Pavitra Rishta for films.

Many a times, audiences who invest their time, energy and emotions in a show, feel cheated due to such abrupt changes. But in many cases, they couldn't care less. All too often, the actors who come as replacements try to reflect the mannerisms of their predecessors in an attempt to fit into their shoes, but gradually incorporate their own idiosyncrasies.

It wouldn't be wrong to term actor Hiten Tejwani as a 'replacement expert'. A while ago, he replaced Rajput to play the role of Manav in Pavitra Rishta. Tejwani feels that if he fits the bill and the audience accepts him, his job as an actor is done. After all, like they say, the show must go on.

AHA! So our protests rocked them enough that they needed to post a justification! 😆 Keep commenting and emailing guys. 😈 Everyone who's a Prats as Anandi fan I mean, if you're not, please don't reply to me telling me to stop trying, I have the right to make my protest heard. I don't want to 'adjust kar lo', a la Rang De Basanti. 😛

Thanks for the article!! Yes, the show must go on ...nobody is indispensable. I agree with HitenTejwani ...replacement has to give all he has to the character and try to fit in...if he fits the bill and the audience accepts him, his job as an actor is done!! The mark of a good actor is to portray whatever he or she has in hand with full conviction. The script is always the king!! Good script and good director... good performance will happen 😊.

When a show runs for many years the real people playing the part may start having problems and may even feel stagnated as an artist...doing the same thing over and over again and wearing the same costumes can get monotonous and tiring. So I respect if the actor wants to opt out...we all should be allowed to quit and resign from job if we are tired of it.

Now a days everybody wants to emulate Mark Zuckerberk but the fact is... we have so many failures and heart-brakes and then we get just 1 Gates or Zukerberg but that does not stop us from trying so we all shd try & I'm all for trying new avenues you never know what might click ...nobody has the crystal ball.

I wish Pratz all the best for her movie & I'm sure she'll do full justice just like Parchi Desai!!

I never felt prachi desai is a good actress. She just looks pretty and in Bollywood she never gets lead female roles. She just gets second female lead roles in multi starrer movies. Prats is a good actress but not a movie heroine material. She has to really improve her personality and be lucky to get a good movie. But like the role she got or importance she got as anandi will be difficult in Hindi movies. every few actresses like vidhya balan got good roles inspite not being glamours.

Prachi is decent actress😳 ...good or bad I'll not comment here but yes, she is not unemployed like many telly actors who have tried hand in Bollywood. Vidya Balan...again some will pounce on you for comparing Pratz with power house of talent Balan😛. Well, I do not have a problem as I get what you want to convey😉. But to break the mold Vidya needed a Parineeta and rest as they say is history...same is the story with Kahani what a beautiful script and awesome direction by Sujoy Ghosh. So one has to get the right opportunity to perform.
But how does one get good meaty roles?? one has to try. There is no machine to churn out Vidya, Parchi & so many others...
Sorry buddy...movie heroine material is not written on anybody's face...maybe you can see but I can't decide what makes a actor star. You may feel it is difficult for Pratz but with her talent and support in the industry she 'll surely do good. If Pratz feels that she has the talent and if she wants to try who are we to stop 😕. To each his own ...she is not our slave

If she feels she can handle movies ...She she shd go head on ...this is the time to spread your wings and fly. The life span of a lady actor is unfortunately very short. We shd not restrict our self thinking abt the future😊
