"Theek hai Lal Singh hum aaj hi aate hain tumhare paas" Shiv mumbled trying hard to keep himself inaudible to his dear wife. It was a bright sunny morning in Jetsar and while waiting for the day's best cup of tea, Shiv decided to finally make an appointment with Lal Singh. No it was not for him, but for Anandi. It had been a month, that he noticed Anandi having trouble in reading far-off things. He was startled when he noticed her moving closer to the television to update Mahi with the cricket score, while he could clearly read the same from almost the same distance. To add to it, she had been frequently complaining of a throbbing headache since the past few days. It was when he caught her pressing her temples inspite of his tel malish and Lal Singh's pain-relievers, that he realized the problem were something else. Anandi was probably showing symptoms of a weak-eyesight. He had known the symptoms from his own bout of hypermetropic headaches during his IS days. The constant headaches didn't let him study and it was then that his family doctor advised him to get his eyes checked.
"Shiv, main hospital nahin jaane wali" she pouted keeping his cup of tea on the table and adjusting herself just next to him on the sofa. Stifling his smile, he hid his face behind his newspaper and tried to act indifferent. "Shiv meri baat suniye na" she tried to unmask his face from behind the newspaper. "Mat karo Anandi" he retorted moving the newspaper closer to his face."Acha to ab aap meri baat bhi nahin sunenge...theek hai phir mujhe bhi nahin baat karni aapse. Ab aap mere bhoot ko hi le jaiyega hospital" she crossed her arms in complaint. Lowering his newspaper, Shiv glanced at his wife's cute puppy face and giggled at her innocence. Shifting closer he nuzzled his chin onto her shoulder and whispered "Waise aap gusse mein bhi utni hi cute lagti hain jitni pyaar karte hue". Her mind grew cloudy as she felt his hot breath washing over her moist skin. Slowly turning back, she looked into his eyes and blushed beet red. Though they were yet to take their relationship to the next level, but somewhere, she knew she was ready for the final step. And she knew he had sensed it too. It was strange how she never needed words with him. Still looking into his eyes, her pouted lips grew apart as she felt his moist breath nestling them erotically ☺️ But suddenly remembering why she was upset with him, she looked away and said, "Rehne deejiye, mujhe nahin baat karni aapse". Smiling at her fake anger, he reached back to his newspaper and teased, "waise mujhe nahin pata tha ki meri himmat wali sarpanchnee hospital jane se itna darti hai". Hearing his words, she looked back at him with furrowed brows and snatched his newspaper, "main koi Shivraj Shekhar nahin hoon jo hospital jane se daroon...woh to main bas isliye mana kar rahi thi kyunki..."
"kyunki..??" he raised a brow and smirked.
"kyunki...kyunki mujhe chashma nahin pehna" she pouted making a childlike face.
"Ohhh to ye problem hai" keeping a hand under her chin he made her look at him "Par ismein itna pareshan hone wali kya baat hai...aur waise bhi checkup ka matlab ye thodi hai ki aapko chashma lag hi jayega. Abhi to sirf aapki aankhein test karenge bas" he re-assured trying to ease her concern.
"Par Shiv..." before she could complete, he glanced at her with the 'what else' look leaving her mouth shut. "Main taiyaar hokar aati hoon" she sulked giving in. Smiling, he pinched her nose and said "That's like my good girl" 😳
At the hospital, while they waited for their turn to come, Anandi briefed Shiv about her proposal regarding the set-up of Alok's handloom business in jetsar, that can help to create newer job opportunities for the villagers. "Shiv isse nahin sirf poora parivaar humare saath reh payega balki jetsar ka bhi kitna vikas hoga", she said in an almost enthralled tone. Impressed, he stared at his beautiful wife in sheer awe. "Aise kya dekh rahe hain" she mumbled in a sheepish tone as his gaze stained her cheeks rosy pink. It was so amazing how she always understood all his needs without him needing to put it to words. She knew how much he missed all his family members and wanted them to live with him and Anandi. "Bataiye na aise kya dekh rahe hain?". "Dekh raha hoon ki agar aap meri zindagi mein na hoti to main kitna adhoora hota" he sighed looking deep into her eyes. For the first time, without worrying about the bustling crowd around them, she didn't try to look away and lost herself in his captivating gaze. It was only after a few minutes of their passionate eyelock, did lal singh snap them out of their trance. It was Anandi's turn for the check-up. "Shiv aap yahin baithiye...main theek rahungi ander" she affirmed seeing him tagging along."Par main theek nahina rahunga Anandi...I promise main bas peeche khada rahunga...zyaada hyper nahin hunga". Smiling, she let him come along. While the opthamologist performed various tests on her, Shiv looked upon with concern.
Once the other tests had been done, the nurse seated them on a bench and asked him to keep her eyes diluted with some eye drops for at least the next half hour. "Shiv aur kitne test karenge ye log...mujhe ghar jakar aapka tiffin bhi pack karna hai aur phir school bhi jana hai" she sulked making a face. "Bas thodi der aur" standing up smiligly, he moved behind her chair. Gesturing her to tilt her head backward, he leaned over her and said, "Anandi, thoda sa jalega, par ghabrana mat, bas meri aankhon mein dekhti rehna" Leaning further he caressed her forehead gently and carefully poured the drops into both of her eyes stopping as she shut them in reflex. Moving back to his seat, he nestled closer and pressed her hand. "Shiv ye bahut jal raha hai" shuddering in discomfort she tried to open her eyes, only to be stopped by him, as he kept his hand on her eyelids. "Anandi nahin abhi aankhein nahin kholni, bas do minute aur, abhi theek ho jayega" he assured gently wiping the extra medicine that trickled down her cheeks and got her busy with his chit-chat.
Once the tests were done, Anandi and Shiv drove back to the Circuit house. Lal Singh had asked shiv to collect her reports by afternoon but indirectly informed him that she might be needing glasses. Knowing she would be having a blurry vision for the next few hours, he took a leave from his work to ensure she doesn't strain her eyes in his absence.
In the evening, finishing off with an important presentation, Shiv returned back to their bedroom. An instant smile sprang to his lips as he saw his cute wife making funny faces. She sat on the bed pouting with her arms crossed, looking daggers at the antique kind of spectacles Lal Singh had given for her. Muffling his smile, he walked closer to her and chided, "Ye kya aapne abhi tak chashma kyun nahin pehna?".
"Shiv main isse nahin pehne wali...main ekdum bhondu lagungi ismein"
"Nahin to aap bilkul bhi bhondu nahin lagengi...bas thodi si champu zaroor lagengi" he teased leaving her dumbstruck. Getting annoyed with his teasing, she raised her pillow and whacked him in irritation. Giggling and dodging her attacks, he caught her by hands, "Achcha baba sorry, meri sherni to choti choti baat pe bhadak jati hai" he smirked making her throw the pillow right on his face in anger. "Anandi pls mere baaal mat bigaro" he sulked throwing away the pillow and setting his hair back into place."Achcha jee apne balon ki itna chinta aur mujhe kah rahe hain ki chashme pehen lo...how mean!" she raised a brow, her hands on her hips.
"Arey!, balon ka chashme se kya connection?"
"Connection hai! Jaise aapke liye aapke baal perfect hone chahiye waise hi ek ladki ke liye uska chehra sabse important hota hai. Ye chashma pehen kar mera chehra kitna bhadda lagta hai. Sab kitni khilli udayenge meri agar main isse bahar pehen ke gayi to" she made a cute face snuggling into her blanket.
"Oh to ye baat hai, to aapko apni khubsurti ki chinta ho rahi hai?"
"aur nahin to kya"
"Par aapki to shaadi ho gayi na...phir aapko kiske liye itna khubsoorat lagne ki zaroorat hai?"
"aapke liye aur kiske..." he smirked as she said her feelings aloud.
"Meri matlab hai ki...agar aap ya phir koi bhi...mujhe aise gande se chashme ke saath dekhega to usse achcha nahin lagega na"
"Auron ka to pata nahin, par mujhe bahut achcha lagega" hailing her concerns, he carefully adjusted the spectacles on her face and held her hands to abstain her from removing them again. Now, lowering her specs to the tip of her cute nose, he looked into her eyes and said, "Abhi bhi utni hi sunder lag rahi hain aap, meri cute chashmish". Pouting she looked disappointedly at him, knowing there was no way out now. Seeing her disheartened, he took her hand into hers and spoke,"Achcha baba promise, bas thode din pehen lo, phir main pakka iska kuch na kuch ilaaj dhoondh lunga" Knowing he was just trying to make her feel better, she nodded and sadly nuzzled herself into her blanket.
A few days passed with Anandi slowly getting used to the new addition to her adornments. Though surprised, but everyone around greeted the new change in her with an overwhelming response. They assured her how she looked all the more beautiful with her new found eyes. She smiled knowing the person behind all this. It was her not so smart husband who had informed all the family members of both sides about her spectacle story and asked them to treat her with no surprise. How stupid he was to think she won't understand, she thought to herself.
On one such day, sending him to office, she returned back to their bedroom. As she moved closer to her side of their bed, her eyes fell on a box wrapped in a glitter paper. "Shiv..." she sighed slyly, lifting the gift into her hands and unwrapping it in excited anticipation. Opening the box, she smiled musingly to herself. It contained a pair of a contact lenses. Keeping the gift aside, she browsed through the bed for his letter. A smile touched the corner of her lips as she found his letter kept safely beneath her pillow. Taking in his scent, she opened the letter and began to read,
"Ye un pyaari si aankhon ke liye jinmein unginatt unkahe, unjane aur sehmein se khwab dekhe hain maine. Khwab jinhein ab samajhne laga hoon main. Jinhein poora karna sirf khushi nahin, maksat ban gaya hai mera. Aur ye isliye nahin kyunki inhein pehenkar aap zyaada sunder lagengi...balki isliye kyunki main janta hoon ki inhein dekhkar aapke hothon par wohi pyaari si muskurahat hogi , jo sirf aadat nahin, ab zaroorat ban gayi hai meri.Umeed karta hoon aapko tohfa pasand ayega.
