Sorry to barge in like this.I found your discussion very interesting .I agree with you and disagree with you to some extent.I completely agree with the first part of JA relationship.A relationship like the one they had should not have ended the way it did.
Coming to the characterisation of J - I don't believe that there are any inconsistencies in it.
Jagya has always been a weakling who needed a strong guiding presence/influence in his life right from his childhood days.He always had tendency to fall for all that glitters.He never had the capability to tell which is gold and which is not.He has never been the one to make decisions on his based on his own thinking he always made decisions based on what other people's opinion.After Anandi entered his life he depended on her wisdom to make his decisions.And his dependency on her reached to a level that he became dysfunctional without her.
Even in his childhood when Anandi has been sent away by DS he fell into bad company and his behaviour deteriorated to such an extent that he fudged his report card which led into his running away to Mumbai and the famous shoot out out where Anandi ended up getting hit by the bullet.
That jolt kept him on the straight and narrow path till they were eighteen years.
Second seperation from Anandi happened when he left for Mumbai to do medicine.He saw lot of glittering objects and one of them had been Gauri.His first impression of Gauri - she seemed exactly like Anandi.With nobody to tell him what is wrong with his thinking he went wrong and this time the mistake is much bigger with much bigger consequences.
By the time he realised his mistake it had been too late.
And he wanted the guiding influence back in his life so that he can lead a better life.He did everything that could think of to get the guiding influence back in his life.He begged blackmailed plotted lied cheated and what not to get her back.That was very much within his character.Because along with being Anandi's Jagya he was Dadisa's spoiled ladesar too who was used to having things his way.
Even now when he realised the consequences of his mistakes he has not been able to face the pain those consequences brought.Because DS's ladesar has been brought up that way.All his pains have been soothed by DS.But DS is only human she cannot make his pains disappear all the times.The inability to bear the pain has led him to disappear this time.
Having said that I agree CVs have messed up.But the messing up happened with the tracks that involved him and not with the character.
Jagya was never meant to grow up to be a tree.His character is that of clinging vine which thrives only with a proper support and bears fruits and flowers becomes productive only when it is given the support that it requires.Otherwise it will wither away.
I know there are others who believe that he is non productive and will never bear fruits or that the he is full of poison and I disagree with them too.
His redemption is all about either him finding the right support so that he can become that vine which bears fruits and flowers or someone helps him find the support that he needs so that he can stop withering away and become productive in life just like he is meant to be.

I agree J's portrayal as a wavering sort was consistent from the beginning. But to brand him incapable of any decision would be inaccurate. Two important ones, Medicine career or a resolve to retract from his error prone life were entirely his biding. A person perusing medicine might not be so entirely dull as we are insisting. Some diverging impressions;
- His hugely fluctuating scripting post 'G revelation jolt' leaves a cynical taste. A deeply shaken, remorseful person, goes on blackmailing, plotting, lying, cheating spree?!? In stead of an humble apology which he was showed to long for from bottom of his heart - as clearly shown in his next scene past his split from the G, in that temple scene, in front of his family deity, Goddess Durga. A much more plausible reaction, or a scene in sinc. with the consequence of the trauma that he went under, than the ones that followed; demanding, plotting, blackmailing etc. Notice, how all of those twists were greatly employed in forging the progress of other pairing. And why not? (Only, along with a note on inconsistency in his scripting- a recurring theme in this tale).
- In sketching only an astray pendulum, ever wayward in absence of soothing or spoiling influences of likes of Anandi, Dsa or G, what Cvs are missing, is to fill in the contours of a son of a very upright parents, whose 'Jagdish' can not be wished away as a void 'influence', as if they never had any bond or influence. Though, his recent turns seem to be taking care of this lacuna. And tree or vine, thank god, his current reform may shoot some green leaves of positivity, which were withered or withheld under either glaring brilliance or shadowing tallness of other trees- in form of a constant vilification. Perhaps, to highlight how fecund others are- of late an unexpected nag (expensive vilification) that has considerably distracted some like me from fully enjoying a long awaited triumph of our primary interest, original favourite in the serial. Anandi. Thank god for delinking. Ultimately all is towards that tale.
