The Beginning Of A New Afterlife
Nearly a month had passed since Anandi and Shiv got married and started their new life. The journey from engagement to wedding had been a bumpy ride but more or less it helped them understand and trust each other better than ever. Since they had become best of the friends, everything seemed easier and smoother. Though they were yet to unite at levels other than emotional, Shiv had been least bothered about the same. He wished to give Anandi all the time and space she needed. Till then he was more than happy being her best friend. On the other hand, Anandi too had started feeling a lot for Shiv. Somewhere internally she had come to terms with her unexplained fondness for her husband, but being the woman she is, she preferred expressing her feelings in ways other than confessing the three coveted words.
All had been smooth in their lives until one day when Anandi received an envelope that contained two air tickets, and a letter from the Shekhars.The newly wedded couple had been gifted a honeymoon trip to Paris. Shiv had stifled a giggle when Anandi told him about the envelope in an almost frantic tone."Anandi main itna bhi boring nahin hoon ki tum mere saath chalne mein itna daro"😆 Shiv teased bringing a little smile to her lips. "Anandi hum wahan sirf ghumne jayenge...nayi jagah dekhenge...naye logon se milenge...khayenge peeyenge aur khoob enjoy karenge...bas that's it." Shiv had reassured with an understanding smile on his face.😳
Finally their honeymoon kick started with a very emotional and filmi departure with the Singhs specially dadisa who had been too anxious for the safety of her lado and kunwarsa making Anandi upset too. But that sadness didn't last long. Anandi had stared at the beautifully lit Paris skyline with an awed sparkle in her eyes. "Shiv it's so beautiful" Anandi let out a sigh as she clutched onto Shiv's arm walking along the seine river under the twinkling stars. "Indeed it is" Shiv exhaled looking at his beautiful wife who had unknowingly come too close to him.A shy blush formed on her cheeks as she realized the compliment was more for her than the city.😳
Two days passed just like that with Anandi and Shiv exploring the city and its mesmerizing landscape.The third day didn't start on a much pleasant note as Anandi dragged Shiv to a historical art museum.He had dozed off on one of the benches when Anandi took almost an hour strolling through just a single gallery. Anandi laughed as they stepped out of the gallery spending almost three hours at the place. She had never seen Shiv this depressed.😆😆Suppressing her laughter, she held him by his hand and gestured a sorry holding one of her ears."Achcha promise ab hum aapki pasand ki jagah jayenge" she affirmed still holding onto her giggles.But her words turned against her own self when she came to know where Shiv wished to go.It was the famous cable car of Paris - Almost 2317 mts above the ground level.😲
"Shiv ye gir to nahin jayega na" Anandi expressed her concerns as they waited for a vacant car to arrive.Shiv chuckled as he saw his wife's innocent fears scaring the hell out of another Indian couple that stood next to them crossing their hearts and chanting some prayers. As Shiv shifted Anandi's attention to the couple, the two of them giggled hiding their faces into each other.Anandi patted Shiv on his shoulder as he cracked another joke in her ear leaving her into splits. She smiled realizing how her husband had smartly distracted her from her fears. As the car arrived, Shiv stepped in first and took Anandi in holding her hand.Fastening her safety belt he passed a reassuring smile to her.Still scared, Anandi crossed one of her arms into his and held tightly onto it.She clutched him harder as the car came into motion.
"Anandi waise ghar pe sab kitne hairan ho jayenge na jab apni itni bold aur strong bahu ka ye roop dekhenge" Shiv teased as he captured her fears into his handycam. Making a pout she hit him on his arm and tried to snatch away the handycam as he switched it between his hands playfully. He grinned naughtily seeing her struggle to grab him by hand. While they continued to fight over the handycam, it suddenly slipped out of Shiv's hold as the car came to a jolted halt; leaving them in a state of fret. A power failure put the entire cable on an unexpected halt in air. Anandi gulped as she saw the handycam crashing into a million invisible pieces down the valley.The sky had suddenly become too cloudy and began to pour heavy rains.Anandi clasped onto Shiv's arm as a cloud burst at their head.He held her strongly assuring they were safe.
For a few moments Anandi felt relieved but only until she saw one of the cars ahead theirs tripping off the cable. Though that car was vacant but it surely pointed to an impending danger as the cable had become slippery due to the rains increasing the probability of an accident. Anandi let out a shriek as her eyes witnessed the car collapse.Shiv too had been shaken this time.
"Anandi tumhein kuch nahin hoga...main tumhein kuch nahin hone dunga" Shiv gasped with an invincible pain in his voice shaking Anandi out of her stupor. Her heart skipped beats as their eyes locked into each other's. The love in his eyes made her feel choked in the throat. For that one moment she felt like oblivious to everything around them. It was just him and her...and the fear of losing each other.She wished to hold him, touch and feel him, take him into her arms and stay there forever. She closed her eyes and let out a sigh.
"Shiv"
"Anandi bas thodi der aur'everything will be fine soon."
"Shiv main iss ek lamhe ko sirf apke saath jeena chahti hoon...sirf aapke saath mehsoos karna chahti hoon. Sirf aap aur main...na beete hue pal ki fikar..na aane wale pal ka darr...bas ye ek lamha aur hum"
Shiv felt himself struggling for breaths as he registered her words. Suddenly it felt as if all his existence had squeezed into that one moment - nothing before, nothing beyond. No bracket of past or future. Taken a little aback by her gesture, Shiv moved his hands to her face. Anandi lifted her head off his shoulder, looked at him with hazy eyes and cutting the distance between them kissed him softly on his lips; letting the ages of separation dissolve into passion. He closed his eyes and parted his lips as she moved her hands across his back. He leaned in further and kissed her back feeling their souls merge into oneness.
"I LOVE YOU SHIV" Anandi sighed as she broke the kiss to catch a few breaths. For a few passing seconds he lost himself into her unparalleled aura. It felt as if god had suddenly answered every prayer he'd ever offer. When the lump in his throat subsided , he whispered to her, "I LOVE YOU Anandi, I LOVE you more than I have ever loved anyone, more than you can ever imagine and more than I think I can ever be capable of - I LOVE YOU".☺️
A tear escaped the corner of her eye as his words sank in. Wrapping his arm around her waist she rested her head on his chest and closed her eyes. She wanted him, needed him, now more than ever, like nothing she'd ever known.
Lightening cut the sky outside. October rain sheeted itself against the windows, drowning out all other sounds. The car had come into motion once again. Anandi lifted her head off his chest and looked into his eyes. It was the beginning of a new afterlife.
