Hi This is my first attempt at writing an OS also my hindi isn't really good- so please bear with me! 😊
Due to "sarkari kaam" Shiv and Anandi are travelling in Shiv's jeep to a nearby town. The weather is cool, it's evening- just about to rain. Neither of them are talking. Shiv is thinking about how Anandi looked in his B'day party. He was only watching her, all through the Party. He enjoyed her smile. Her being happy made him happy. Flashes of all the events that took place during the party, going back to the time when he first met her come before his eyes. Suddenly he hear her voice.
"Collector Saab..."
He turns towards Anandi. The same face he was dreaming about.
"Aap ka phone baj raha hai...", says Anandi.
But the phone is a little out of his reach. Anandi tries to take the phone and give it to him. Suddenly something is appearing before the jeep. Shiv steers away. Phone falls outside the jeep- but close-by only. But in the sudden jerk due to turning of the jeep, both Anandi and Shiv fall off the jeep. Jeep hits a tree. The phone that falls down, the answer button gets pressed automatically. Jeep explodes...
Anandi and Shiv are standing on the ground, covered in bruises. They are shocked.
"Aap theek hain, Anandi ji"?
"Main theek hoon. Yeh kya tha? Mujhe toh yeh ek saazish lag rahi hai... Shukar hai hum Jeep main nahin the..." Anandi speaks many things really fast.
"Anandi ji... Anandi ji..." Shiv tries to interrupt her. But she keeps talking. "ANANDI JI", says Shiv and holds her roughly by her upper arm. Anandi stops talking and looks at Shiv.
"Bhool jayiye isey. Aap pareshaan mat hoiye. Hum theek hain. Bas itna khaafi hai. Aur ab Jaitsar jaane ke baad sochenge aage kya karna chaahiye..."
Anandi keeps staring at him. Shiv too stares at her. Anandi looks troubled. Shiv's eyes were as though telling her softly to calm down. That he was there for her. Reassuring her- that whatever happens, he'll be there beside her. A soft breeze. They both realise what's going on and suddenly look away.
"Humein vaapis Jaitsar.." they both start together... realise this and stop.
"Toh gaadi ka..." they both start together... realise this, once again and stop.
"Main pata karta hoon..."Says Shiv.
But there is no one around. Not even the explosion had got anyone to the spot. Anandi's mobile was in the jeep and got destroyed. Shiv's mobile was broken.
They hear temple bells somewhere in the distance. Shiv points out and says- "Woh dekhiye anandi ji. Wahan pe shaayad koi mandir har. Jake pata karte hain..." They both start walking towards the temple.
Shiv stumbles on the rough roads. But Anandi, being a village 'desi' girl is used to walking on Kuchcha roads. She holds his hands. "Thanks", says Shiv. Anandi gives her 'trademark' serious kind of smile.
They reach the temple.
There, they see a young couple in shaadi ka joda. They are about to be married. They have apparently ran off from home, against their parent's wish. Now the Pandit is a bit afraid of conducting their wedding. The girl's family, he says might object. But Anandi and Shiv come to know that they are both of age. The boy works in Mumbai and is financially stable. He speaks in length about their love. How he wants to make her happy etc. Shiv says to pandit that he is Jaitsar's collector and Anandi is the Sarpanch. They are both willing to be witnesses and he will take care if there are any trouble. He asks the Pandit to conduct the wedding. Anandi agrees. The wedding begins. Anandi ties the gat bandhan. Flashes of her own baal-vivaah with Jagiya comes before her eyes. Shiv notices this. Anandi sees Shiv watching her.
Hurriedly, she wipes off her tears. Wedding gets over. The couple try to fall on Shiv and Anandi's feet. Shiv stops them. Anandi hugs the bride. She says to the groom- never leave her. Shiv looks at Anandi- a kind of sad- concerned look. They both leave the temple. Turn back and wave goodbye to both Shiv and Anandi.
Panditji is about to leave the temple. Shiv asks him if there is any village nearby from where they could get transport. Pandit says there is village nearby. They both follow Pandit. It becomes night.
Pandit takes them to a person names Ramu. Ramu could provide them with transport to reach Jaitsar, he says. But this could only be possible the next morning. Ramu says, that they both can stay at his house for the night.
Ramu takes them to his house. He shows them the room they can are to stay in. Anandi tries to say that they need another room. But Shiv stops her and leads her into the room. He explains that it is not safe for her stay alone. Anandi is troubled.
"Ghabraaiye mat Anandi ji. Main neeche zameen par so jaoonga...", says Shiv. But Anandi says- she will sleep on the floor. Finally she convinces him.
Shiv gets himself some clothes for both Anandi and himself from Ramu. Ramu gives him a dhoti-kurta and a saree. Shiv enters the room. Anandi has removed her ornaments. Her plain looks stuns him. He keeps staring at her. She is not comfortable to look him in the eyes. She looks down. Suddenly, it begins to rain. The window makes noise. Both Anandi and Shiv try to read for the door. Their hands touch. Anandi withdraws. Rain water splashes on them both. Water droplets on Anandi's neck slowly drain down. Shiv is not able to look anywhere else. Window makes noice once again. They realise they are standing very close to each other. Anandi moves away. Shiv closes the window. When he turns back, Anandi is wiping her face with her pallu. She turns and looks at him. He feels shy and looks down. Then realises that there is a saree in his hand. He gives it to her.
"Aap pahle fresh ho jaiye"... says Shiv.
Shiv waits in the room. Sounds of Anandi pouring the water inside the bathroom reaches his ears. There's lightning outside. He keeps thinking about why he's feeling so restless. Anandi calls out from the washoom.
"Collector saab..."
"Ji.."?
"Woh... main..."
Shiv thinks what she could be trying to say. Then he realises.
"Anandi ji... aap bahar aaiye. Main apne aankhein band kar leta hoon..."
Bathroom door opens. Shiv is closing his eyes. Anandi comes out. She has just draped the saree around herself. hasn't tied it properly. She begins to instruct him the way to the bathroom. There is confusion in "right-left". He splips. Falls over Anandi. they are both on the ground... Staring at each other...
There is a lightning and thunder outside. Hurriedly, they both get up. Look in opposite direction. Shiv enters into the bathroom. Anandi is confused and turbulent.
When Shiv comes back from the bathroom, Anandi is in a Rajasthani type red saree. He is just trying to admire her looks in saree, when she says- "Ramu ji ne yeh khana diya hai..."
They both eat in silence. They are lost in their own thoughts. Anandi is troubled about what fate has planned for her. Why is it getting her so close to collector saab. Shiv is thinking- that he must not react like this. He must control his feelings for Anandi.
The light is switched off.
Anandi lies down on the floor. Shiv is on the bed. Anandi is facing away from Shiv. Shiv is facing Anandi. But both are not asleep...
