Tinoo,

That was really nice of u to support n explain the fool tag, Honestly, I am now suffering from a Anandi sympathy fatigue. She is refusing to think things thru n figure out her place in the future.

I mean - if she could study at the village school and clear 12, DS can easily make the school run afternoon classes for seniors, why does that have to be such a MASSIVE brainwave n initiave by Ms. Anandi ? She ofcourse gets a major ego boost out of presiding over her supposed seniors - I am ceratin of it. and it is this over confidence in her own mind that makes her think she need consult nobody and she knows best and can talk to any elder (read Madan, Kakisa) like an errant school kid in her own class.

How about her duty to and sympathy for her own parents ? Does she ever bother to spare a single thought for them ? How they must be living knowing their only daughter seems to have no secure future ? Does she ever bother to care for their feelings ? But she has time to care for Jagya's financial needs in the city and can amply sympathise with Gauri's position. Seriously deluded but not evil - and hence someone who needs to be kept in check. She justifies the line - Fools rush in where angels fear to tread.

Am glad about this Gauri pregnancy track in a way. As typical TRP booster as it is - it has the probability of softening DS and maybe Sumitra towards J's offspring and hence a grudging acceptance of Gauri. Dearly hope Anandi will not run to the kitchen for these 2 and be happy being a baby sitter for their kid and get praised for being even more mahaan and sacrificing.

Please - I really want her to get a reality shot and have DS suggest she go home for sometime to visit her folks and then not call her back. Unless she gets a swift metaphorical kick in the pants, her haveli-ki-beendni- but-now-beti fever won't wear off. She really needs to get away and study for her own self.

Loved your Plato quote 🤗

Excellent discussions! I agree with all of you---Anandi is indeed acting like a hypocrite. However, let me attempt a psychoanalytical analysis of her behavior.

Anandi is actually a classic case of damaged self esteem. Throughout the turmoil in her marriage, Jagya kept on blaming her for her failings. Over and over again, the issue was Anandi's gawarpan, Anandi's lack of education, Anandi not worthy of being Jagya's wife and so on and so forth. Over an extended period of time Anandi's confidence and self worth was battered severely by Jagya for his selfish means. If only he had confessed that their marriage broke because he fell in love with Gauri and not because Anandi lacked worth, that could have saved Anandi of the humiliation.

Now this prolonged battering of self worth has left Anandi with two very severely damaging traits:

1. Anandi can't bring herself to punish Jagya or go against him. More than love, I think , it is a classic case of low self-esteem. Deep down Anandi still believes that she deserved to be abandoned, that Jagya has left her for her own failings and fault and therefore she has no right to claim anything from him. This doormat-ish behavior has instilled very early by dadisa when she kind of drilled it into her psyche that Jagya is superior than her. The final nail in the coffin was driven by Jagya when he did emphasize on Anandi's inferiority over and over again. The Anandi we have today lacks an iota of self-confidence, precisely because she sees herself through the eyes of Jagya and sees zero self worth in herself.

2. Now her lack of self-worth has led to her second trait of doing samaj seva. The only way she feels empowered and of some worth is by playing the guardian and god for the rest of the village folks. That's why playing the role of the teacher/counselor/ advisor/ social activist is so addictive to her, because all these roles are roles of power and authority over other people. That's precisely why she would happily forego her own education and her own financial security to play the god for the rest of the villagers. Significantly enough, Anandi plays guardian to not only people of her own age and younger kids, but most importantly to the adults. And that's the most empowering thing for her---------that she can boss over, scold, guide and act as authority for adults. Yielding power over the adults kind of makes up for her own humiliation from Jagya and she would not give up this role at any cost.

It is a very dangerous and damaging trait for people suffering from low self-esteem.As a person, Anandi needs to find alternative ways to build her self-esteem, not from this faux sense of power that comes with adults playacting as her kids--especially the haveli people--, allowing her to boss over them. This kind of authority can be reverted back very easily as soon as the villagers will stop letting her play their guardian. That's precisely what is happening in the pre-cap and it will leave Anandi more damaged.

Anandi really needs good guidance and counseling to repair her damaged personality. Gosh, why are all the leads of BV suffering from some psychological problem or the other?!!! Gauri, Jagya, Anandi...is there any sane, normal, balanced person around?

Why yes - there r a couple of sane people around but the problem is - nobody wants to listen to them. First of all, Gehna, Bhairon, Shyam - but they r all juniors to DS and so have to shut up even when they can see the problem exactly as it is.

Your assessment is very right - when a person can't solve his/her own problems, they want to solve everybody else's in order to somewhere assuage the feeling of incompetence inside. In fact this is the theory attributed to explain compulsive gamers who are addicted to working difficult crosswords n other mathematical/logic problems.

Anandi is getting increasingly out of control and may also head for a nervous breakdown if this continues. Hope she gets the help she needs soon from her teacherji.
