Masaa wanted her son to get married the second time, with a very young girl, almost 20 year younger to Basant... and we know of the obvious reasons - the desire of a grandson, somebody who can take her vansh forward.
If we look at it this way: the society wants every married couple to produce an off spring and carry forward the genes of the family. This procreation power keeps the society going. When Basant was unable to produce a child with his first marriage.. masaa insisted on his second marriage. There is a possibility that she would not have had any problems in her son living alone had their been a child out of the first relationship..
Can we say that masaa succumbed to societal pressure? Is she a victim of the institution of marriage, which is considred of utmost importance in society?

She isn't a victim for sure...She already has Jagdisya who is her grandson, and he can continue their family tree..So there really is no reason for Basanth to have any offspring.

One thing that's possible is that Maasa is not acting out of her own accord. Children learn from adults, so when Maasa was young and got married, I bet she learnt a lot of these "rules" from her in-laws.

I think masa doest do this out of her own made rules..she is behaving the way her in-laws behaved with her...she learnt it from there...she doesnt have any idea that society is changing and doest accpt anything going beyond her limits. she is not a bad lady..and i feel she is hereself a victim!!

but u know wht i seriuosly admire that lady who is playing masa..she is too good with the role

Yes, maasa was certainly treated in the same manner that she is treating her daughters in law. She is a superb actress.
Poor Gehna though!!

In my opinion she is not under presure of society but wish to have basant's child doing this. She just wanted ke uske dusare bete ka ghar bhi basa hua ho aur uske bhi bachhe ho. Nahi toh woh khud itani strong hai ke society se ladne ki takat rakhti hai. sometimes i admire her. but some times😆😆😆

An inflictor. She has a right to her beliefs but that doesn't mean that she should be doing what she is she should move on with the times and take in people's feelings which she fails to do.

It's her way of the highway.

The way she was brought up is a reason for the way she is but that doesn't mean she can't change. The fact is she just doesn't want to.
