I believe that often people even stay in bad relationships longer than they should because the fear of the pain of dating is scarier than the pain of a bad relationship!
-Karen Salmansohn

Have you ever found yourself at home, wondering exactly what's going on and why that jerk you're dating hasn't shown up when they said they would? Ever walked downstairs and found that their promise to the dishes has, again, been broken and now they're out on the town? Do you dread introducing your partner to your friends, knowing that they're just going to say something awful and have people wondering why you're with them? Well? Why ARE you with them? Dump Your Significant Jerk Day is the excuse you need to set yourself free.

History of Dump Your Significant Jerk Day

It's really simple actually, Dump Your Significant Jerk Day was established to help those who have a seriously bad relationship with someone have an excuse to finally dump them on their bum. We've all been there, you know we have. Why are we with them? Why are they so mean to me? Why do my friends always ask me why I'm with them and why I let them talk to me that way? When you start hearing this more than other people singing your partners praises, it's time to get yourself a new partner. Or at the very least, it's time to get rid of the old one, sometimes you've just got to do it for yourself, as the song says.

As our opening quote says, sometimes it's really hard to get out of a bad relationship once you're in one. After all, at least they're there, and while they may not be the greatest company, at least you're never quite alone. Unless they leave for the night or just don't bother coming home until late. Don't let that be an excuse for you anymore, Dump Your Significant Jerk Day reminds you that you're worth more than that!

How to celebrate Dump Your Significant Jerk Day

Do you live in their house? Great, leave a note in red-lipstick on their mirror that reads "Thanks for letting me know what I don't want in a relationship! or a simple "Bye Jerk! Do they live in yours? Great, pack up their things and leave them by the door with a simple note "You have been evicted! Have a nice day! Whatever you do, it's time to dump the jerk and get yourself your life back, and someone who's actually FUN to spend time with! Happy Dump Your Significant Jerk Day! Or should we say "Independence Day?

Quick! Look out your window, what is the weather like? Go on! Go look. Is it doing what your weatherperson told you before you left the house this morning? I hope you had positive results in our little quiz! Most city's television stations have not just one weatherperson like in the past, but highly trained meteorologist's that form a weather team. Their accuracy has become a thing of pride and highly competitive with the others in town.

History of Weatherman's Day

https://minidovecomics.files.wordpress.com/2014/02/national-weatherman-day.jpg

Weatherman's Day helps to honor those who work in the field of meteorology from the storm spotters to the people you see on camera. Did you know that the history of measuring weather in the United States of America goes back to 1774? John Jefferies is one of the first to make weather observations and record them. He did this every day and helped to make it something of importance. Jefferies was also the first to fly in a balloon over the city of London. This flight had the purpose of collecting scientific data of the weather at higher altitudes. This was valuable information for scientific study in the field of meteorology. There are many throughout the years who have made a mark on the field, but Jefferies was the first in this long line.

Some may even give local explanations and examples. Don't want to head out with the family? Hit up Netflix or your favorite streaming service and take some time to watch shows about storms and those who chase them. You can find weather related movies or if you do want to learn more, try the documentaries. There are sure to be many weather-related options.Feeling adventurous? You could contact any of the storm chasing groups and try it out for yourself. Make sure to head all the safety training and advise that they may give you. Chasing storms can be dangerous and have been known to take lives.

Caution and information must go hand in hand to make the experience one of a lifetime, in a positive way. Is your child a budding meteorologist? Contact your local television station and see if the weather team there can help you make a huge impression on your child. They may have time to offer a tour of the station or even a shot at the green screen! They may just take that childhood phase and turn it into a future career! Whatever you choose to do when you celebrate Weatherman's Day, be sure that you watch the day's forecast and look out your window. You don't want to be unprepared for the weather!

Get out your tiara...wait no! It's not that day. It is Western Monarch Day. It is a day to celebrate the Western Monarch butterfly. It travels from place to place but this day specifically we give thanks for their return to the central California coast. Why is this so important? It is important to watch and make sure that they do return. The monarch butterfly is facing a terrific decline in numbers. Many conservation groups are calling for it to be protected as an endangered species and claim that the number of declines could be as high as 90%!

History of Western Monarch Day

https://mediad.publicbroadcasting.net/p/kalw/files/styles/medium/public/201502/monarch-butterflies-gloucester-massachusetts-c2a9kim-smith-2006.jpg

The Monarch butterfly is a stunning mix of grace and beauty. With rich tones of gold, red, yellow and orange they fly across the landscape and take over the job of pollination. They somehow know when it is time to move. Their migration can be tracked from north and east to south and west, and then back again. Amazingly each way of the migration takes four generations! Can you imagine? Taking into account how much they pollinate, and the fact that their migration takes such a toll on their population it is imperative to understand what their decline really means. Can you picture the toll when I say the decline of Monarch population is near 90%? Let me share a visual with you. Let's talk people instead of insects. If we were to make a comparison, the loss to the butterfly would be as if all the people in the United States of America died except for those in Ohio and Florida. Stunning isn't it?

With that picture in mind, can you now see why there is a Western Monarch Day? A day to bring awareness to this frightening decline? A day to find a way to make a difference!
