Our society was built upon the rugged shoulders and stubborn personalities of farmers from around the world. So, it only makes sense that we celebrate their contributions and all that they have provided (and indeed continue to provide) us. Old Farmer's Day intends to do just this.

Due to the fact that farmers have been honoured for centuries, the roots of this day are likely to go back just as far.

A day of honor is very much deserved to all of the hard-working farmers. National Farmer's Day is observed annually on October 12th as a day for them and to pay tribute to all farmers throughout American history.

Celebrating Old Farmer's Day can take on a few different forms. This will all depend upon where one lives. For instance, those in the country can actually reenact the ancient methods of farming before the invention of electricity and modern equipment. There may even be local festivals to attend. City dwellers can choose to take a trip to a rural area and visit a local farmer's market. There is no doubt that the fruits and vegetables encountered alone should make up for the drive!

National Farmer's Day was previously known as Old Farmer's Day.

From very early in American culture, a farmer's endless hard work has been an example to all of us, and on National Farmer's Day, we thank them for their contributions to our economy.

There are some cities and towns across the United States that have their own versions of Farmer's Day, with celebrations and festivals on various dates throughout the year. Many of them are held in September and October.

October does seem fitting for celebrating National Farmer's Day as it is near the end of the harvest. Many farmers will be able to take a rest from their hard labor to join in the celebration of this holiday.

They come in every shape and size, and protect us from the fear of the dark and comfort us in times of turmoil. Whether they're fuzzy or wooly, old or new, cute or bold, Teddy bears are the childhood friend that never let us down. But where did these Teddy Bears come from, and why are they called "Teddy bears? Bring Your Teddy Bear To Work & School Day celebrates the origins of the Teddy, and where it's going!

History of Bring Your Teddy Bear To Work & School Day

Let's start with the history of the Teddy Bear, popular legend says that it all started from a hunting expedition by Theodore "Teddy Roosevelt, President of the United States from 1901-1909. In 1902 he was on a hunting expedition with several other hunters, but had yet to bag himself a bear as the other hunters had. His attendants hunted down a bear and had cornered it and clubbed it into submission, and then tied it to a tree waiting for the President to shoot it. Roosevelt refused on the grounds that it was utterly unsportsmanlike, and it took no time at all for someone to come up with the idea of selling stuffed bears called "Teddy Bears to children everywhere.

But who first came up with the Teddy Bear? Believe it or not it was created in two places almost simultaneously by unrelated people, Richard Steiff of Germany, and Morris Michtom of the United States. Bring Your Teddy Bear To Work & School Day is your reminder that your childhood companion never abandoned you, and they deserve to not be abandoned by you. So take your favorite childhood stuffed bear to work, or to school, and let it spend a day with you now that the child it protected is all grown up.
