Why is 32 portrayed as "old"?

I'd understand if this show was based in the 90s or early 20s. But nowadays people get married at 30/32. What's the big deal. Priya's dialogue about '32 ki Umar me 22 Saal ki dulhan wali excitement nai h mujhme' feels a little out of place and dramatic tbh.

And 22yr olds are considered bachchi in some families. At least the modern families and society that the show has.

With that I agree

Now a days 22yr olds are considered bachhi only. They are not mature enough to get married.

But I can see still in some villages after 18 families start finding a boy for their daughter. Though morden family is totally different. 30/32 is not a big deal for them.

Most girls in today's day and age gets married after 30 so it's not a big deal at all but it seems in ITV land any girl crossing 25 without marriage is old for marriage market. Becoz in reality 32 is hardly old. Even Ram at 38 for men to be married is not an absolute anomaly becoz there are men too after 35 who get married so nothing new there.

Also Priya not having enthusiasm for the wedding as 22 year olds has nothing to do with age but it's actually Priya's past relationship experiences and rigidness to marry anyone.

Thank you! I also hated her comment only because this is still what I consider a main stream show and has several opportunities to showcase new and progressive ideas. By doing this they are showing Priya in a bad light as well. She is a professor for gods sake! She should be the one to stand for herself and against old ideologies. It is true her life has been hard and she has her own opinion about marriage but there is suchhhhh an emphasis on age in this entire show (not just priya). Frankly I am sick of it.

Also for giggles, know this is an Ekta show and chances are she will get married again to Ram...possibly after a 10yr leap too- so I wonder what her dialogues are going to be then?🤣

@ bold ^^I really hope that this is different but still...who knows. Sooner or later all of Ektas show follow a tried and true pattern.

Exactly This show is problematic at many levels .The dialogues and Priya's character is just cringe .This show is supposed to be progressive.

If they get married again in 10years after separation due to some "misunderstandings", Priya will be over the moon because she'll be marrying the love of her life.

Tab khayal nahi aayega ki 42 ki Umar me 22 Saal wali excitement Kaha se aa rahi h

The reason about 32 being frowned as too late an age for marriage or past marriagable age is that it is considered so in the arranged marriage space. If a family is looking for a girl for their son, no one wants a girl who's 30 or plus, irrespective of the fact that their son may be over 30. Same goes for guys. If parents are looking for a guy for their daughter, they don't typically want someone who's over 32 or so. 38 is as good as 40 and the number doesn’t go with people's definition of youth.

All the progressiveness and modernism comes into play when people choose their own partners. In that scenario, age doesn't matter as much because the people who're getting married have made their choices and there's nothing much people can say or do about it.

I do think 32 is a little old for society in the whole arranged marriage thing but as such today the average age for married is around 25 -28 I guess even when it is arranged marriage so it shouldn’t be that bad. And 22?! 22 is too young to be the average but then again ITV loves getting 18-20 yr old girls married so 22 isn’t a big deal🤡 Even the more progressive ones have 24-25 yr olds only
