To be honest, i think one of the main reasons for the show being put under scanner is change in the storyline, i agree their trying to give screen space to almost every character, but they are neglecting them in their own way, i mean nandini, meera and balraj are getting their screen space but approx only 5 minutes in each episode, and the indian audience is used to a lead couple and a single strong story not multiple stories...tbh the track is more focused on Shyama's past at the moment, which i assume not many of us are interested in, secondly everyone already knows the story of the orginal 'Khela' they know what's going to happen so why should they watch, i agree this show is a modern version of that put still!!!
The TRP's, the show launched during IPL, also shifting it to a later time is not helping...Zee Tv did give dastaan a lot of publicity for the promotions and everything, but they just left it there, from the past month there has been no promo or anything...the change in time slots is also not helping

Another reason probably could be to some families is the boldness somehow, which would not be focused all all age groups somehow...with meera's pregnancy outside marriage and it being accepted i doubt many families in the rural parts of india would allow their children to watch such a show, where such things could be reinforcd...so there the audience is limited.

As for Abhaas quiting, i could somehow agree with him, how much screen space has he been getting??? After doing IPPKND, and not being the lead he got more screen space in that show then being a parrelel lead in this show...obviously every actor would want thier character to shape up well and get the required amount of popularity/success from their character...

They never allow any good shows to find their place. The TRP game just ruins good shows.

That being said, the show started a wrong path with Alokh's slap. It disgusted me. Also they were/are too quick with Neil Nandini. He found out she's a widow and...he they should've worked on it better, a bit more slowly.

I would only say that good shows get under scanner quickly... besides that absence of lead & less screen space to Nill & agastya is also reason for lack of interest of the people. Hindi audience is very demanding they want more time for leads.

rhtpkcm, I agree with you about Shyama's story being little more of the focused than anyone else and how easily Meera was accepted by the family. I love Shyama and Ahkil but we need to see more of other characters storylines also.
At times, I feel like the audience is not ready for any changes. They rather have the same cliche storyline instead of watching something different and new. I was hoping BRKD will change some more audiences' views about having different serials on the air.
Zee TV needs to let go of shows that has been on the air for so many years. We don't need to see part 2, 3 and so forth of that show. If part one of the show was ran sucessfully, then they should have ended there and promote their new and promising show.
I will be sad if this show ends. This is show is different than the typical cliche serials that are out there.
Also, a few of my favorite actors are in this show. I was really excited to see them coming together for BRKD but already I am hearing Abhaas is going to quit. He didn't have the lead role in IPKKND but he had his share of the screen time also in that show and he never thought of quitting.

Unfortunately that is the case with all shows with substance. High TRPs does not necessarily signify the high standard for a show. The TRP audience is so used to certain kind of formulaic shows that it is difficult for them to accept changes. And change seldom happens all of a sudden. It takes time. I really like this show. It is different. I wish they would just leave it alone and let it run its course but of course the channel will do no such thing. They will dip their grubby hands in every show and will force the PHs to dance to their tunes. There are many PHs who will and few who won't. I hope the channel won't force the PH to take drastic steps to boost up the TRPs. Also the time slot is a killer. Any show past 10 pm has a very difficult time to get high TRPs and even if they do to maintain it. I cannot keep my eyes open past 9:30 then how does the channel expect people to stay up till 10:30 or 11 to watch a show. And that is a time slot where audience are going to be less forgiving if there is a track that does not interest them much. In primetime slots even if the tracks in between gets boring, the audience do come back and give the show subsequent chances when things start get interesting again. The reason why leaps, and deaths and other gimmicks has worked so well in getting back audience for the shows that are on primetime right now.

@Aymee, I am going to take a wild guess at the show you are talking about and please do correct me if I am way off base.😆 You are right the channel should have ended it instead of coming up with season 2 but on the positive, the PH refused to bend down to the tunes of the channel and decided to close part 1 when the channel most likely wanted them to introduce gimmicks and stuff and the PH refused to drag it unlike many shows which run in prime time and is past its expiry date. So I give them credits for that. As for season 2 that seems like a channel decision rather than a PH decision and I think I have run out of expletives for the way this channel works. 😡

@angake, you mostly likely have guessed correctly 😉 😆.
I don't understand why channels starts off show with false pretenses. They advertise that the show will be different from other shows but yet later on try to be sneaky later on and make into another typical Indian serial. They should trust the PH and the show run they want to plan.
I wonder at times, why aren't Zee TV and other channels noticing that young Indian audiences loves show from other countries than these Indian serials? Shows from other countries are hits because viewers loves different stories and not that are typical and cliche.

I would very politely disagree.

BRKD has all the elements to be a top show including its storyline and cast. Personally, I don't know the story of the bengali show Khela that BRKD is based on. And I'm guessing that there a lot of other viewers who don't know the story as well.

Unfortunately, the only reason why BRKD is not doing well is that a vast majority of Indian viewers (at least, the ones back in India and the ones who constitute for so-called TRPs) only likes and loves SAAS-BAHU CRAP with females scheming, plotting, and stabbing each other in the back. Or there is this section of the audience who only want to see the lead couple looking good and doing lovey-dovey scenes even if the story sucks.

BRKD is definitely different.

Unfortunately, the Indian audiences have a long way to go before they get over ridiculous saas-bahu kinda crap and shows.

You've hit the nail on the head. This is exactly the reason why a character driven show with well written storyline cannot garner trps.
And then people on IF(who are primarily living outside of India) are always complaining that Hindi serials are just Saas Bahu crap.

Also what an incredible lead character this show has in the form of Balraj Asthana. The evil villan is the the lead character and not some annoying cutesy couple.

Fellow IFians: It's amazing to see how rationality goes out of the window when we start to think rationally about our Indian telly shows.

As an Indian viewer living in the US, I am ashamed to say that there really isn't one show in the prime time slot over the last 10 years that was successful and was not a usual run of the mill, saas-bahu crap. And yes, when I say saas-bahu crap, it also includes jethani-devrani, and all the ridiculous kinda shady characters. And yes, majority of the Indian audience loves celebrating MEDIOCRITY.

Zee TV, in particular takes the cake when it comes to testing audiences patience and coming up with the most far-fetched kinda tracks and stories. Why is it that only Zee TV ends up with such production houses and shows?

You look at these telly shows and wonder, gosh, are they still talking about the 21st century? I don't wanna start listing individual shows here. But, over 99% of our shows are such GROSS misrepresentation of women in particular and families in general.

Oh and I heard how they moved BRKD to a new time slot in India, 11 pm. I mean what do you say there? I am speechless. If a show was having low TRPs in the prime slot, how the hell is it going to garner better TRPs at the 11 pm time slot. That is CLASSIC ZEE for YOU. A bunch of DUMB IDIOTS are running this channel.

to be honest i dont know why some think this show is so different...it feels just like any other show...the characters of both nandani and meera looked really promising in the beginning but now they are both weak...on one hand meera claims that she is independent and can raise a baby all on her own but all we see her is depend on balraj or her mom...she doesnt even have a job...why is she following balraj like a puppet...is she forgetting this was the same balraj who was mean to her and his family when she first came to the house...why is she not using her brain...

nandani is just a typical bahu...how could she not defend herself when she got slapped in a party...why is she still mourning for ani...why cant she move on or become independent...shyama is hiding stuff from her husband but why...she knows her hubby is supportive then go confide in him...just like any other serial she is believing the bad guy and hiding stuff and getting into more trouble...

biji knows all the secrets but she is quite...and once again the villain keeps winning and fooling everyone...so exactly what is so different about this show...

they need to make nandani and meera strong and independent...they should show that a guy who cheated them will not have any control or influence in their lives...they both need to move on...it is sad that actors like abhas, sanjeeda and aditi are not being used to their full potential...the show has a great cast but not a good story line...
