Unfortunately that is the case with all shows with substance. High TRPs does not necessarily signify the high standard for a show. The TRP audience is so used to certain kind of formulaic shows that it is difficult for them to accept changes. And change seldom happens all of a sudden. It takes time. I really like this show. It is different. I wish they would just leave it alone and let it run its course but of course the channel will do no such thing. They will dip their grubby hands in every show and will force the PHs to dance to their tunes. There are many PHs who will and few who won't. I hope the channel won't force the PH to take drastic steps to boost up the TRPs. Also the time slot is a killer. Any show past 10 pm has a very difficult time to get high TRPs and even if they do to maintain it. I cannot keep my eyes open past 9:30 then how does the channel expect people to stay up till 10:30 or 11 to watch a show. And that is a time slot where audience are going to be less forgiving if there is a track that does not interest them much. In primetime slots even if the tracks in between gets boring, the audience do come back and give the show subsequent chances when things start get interesting again. The reason why leaps, and deaths and other gimmicks has worked so well in getting back audience for the shows that are on primetime right now.
@Aymee, I am going to take a wild guess at the show you are talking about and please do correct me if I am way off base.😆 You are right the channel should have ended it instead of coming up with season 2 but on the positive, the PH refused to bend down to the tunes of the channel and decided to close part 1 when the channel most likely wanted them to introduce gimmicks and stuff and the PH refused to drag it unlike many shows which run in prime time and is past its expiry date. So I give them credits for that. As for season 2 that seems like a channel decision rather than a PH decision and I think I have run out of expletives for the way this channel works. 😡

BRKD has all the elements to be a top show including its storyline and cast. Personally, I don't know the story of the bengali show Khela that BRKD is based on. And I'm guessing that there a lot of other viewers who don't know the story as well.
Unfortunately, the only reason why BRKD is not doing well is that a vast majority of Indian viewers (at least, the ones back in India and the ones who constitute for so-called TRPs) only likes and loves SAAS-BAHU CRAP with females scheming, plotting, and stabbing each other in the back. Or there is this section of the audience who only want to see the lead couple looking good and doing lovey-dovey scenes even if the story sucks.
BRKD is definitely different.
Unfortunately, the Indian audiences have a long way to go before they get over ridiculous saas-bahu kinda crap and shows.
