Which method produces better quality gifs, KMPlayer or the normal PS "import video to frame"?

Depends on which version of PS you're using. If you're using CS6, KMPlayer is going to produce better quality. But if you're using CS5, KMPlayer isn't a necessity.

The link posted by Liana on the previous page worked well for me. What kind of error is it showing for you? Intially i did get an error message but it got sorted with the pointers provided by her.

It says configuration error

Says the same thing no matter how many times I try
