If you use PS, her are some tips for:

When you want to merge two pics, make use of the eraser tool firstly, try to smoothen the edges of the pic you're using the eraser tool OR, Choose the lasso tool (L) , cut the edges of your pic, right click>>redefine edges & choose appropriate smooth & feather values. Then, just to make them look more realistic, you can use Blur tool (R) or the Smudge tool (S). All these would really help you.

>>Duplicate layer.

>>Go to blur-->Gaussian Blur
