Astitva goes off air

Ajay Sinha, the maker of hit serial Hasratein, is busy wrapping up his current show on Zee TV – Astitva Ek Prem Kahani. The trials and tribulations of Dr Simran and Abhimanyu will finally come to an end by next month.
Confirming the news, Sinha attributes the serial ending to "no more story left to tell". "After a successful run on Zee for the past three years, it was time to end it now," says Sinha. Unlike the other shows that have been extended by adding drama, twists and turns, Sinha has chosen to be different.
"A television show is like a bike – five people can sit on it but it is actually designed for only two people. Similarly, my shows come with a time limit. Yes, I can show plastic surgeries, artistes dying and reappearing… but I would be cheating my audience. I will not resort to such insanity," says Sinha.
According to the director, Niki Aneja and Varun Badola, the lead actors on the show, have accepted his decision pragmatically.

"They are mature enough to understand that a show cannot go on forever. Originally Astitva was supposed to end in two years but I developed a story about Dr Simran's daughter getting lost in London. Had that track not come in, Astitva would've wrapped up a long time ago. It's better to end a show on a respectful note. I don't want the audience to give me galis for showing them innumerable marriages and a troupe of illegitimate children with sub plots," says he.
But while one serial ends, another starts. Sinha has already started work on his next soap. "I don't think what you see on television are soaps. They are serials, just like Astitva. Soap is what Zee and I are planning to do. It's going to be the first multi-starrer soap on television."
