Chapter 14

Girish Solanki felt like banging his head on the wall.

He had received a tiny brown envelope with a wax seal on it. It had the symbol of an Eagle on it . Grateful that the security had overlooked it, he had snuck it away to the restroom and opened it away from everyone's prying eyes. As he ripped away the envelope, he realised he was trembling. So much for some extra money. Inside was a brown paper, on it were written a few words.

0701. Red door. Three knocks. Two rings.

Needless to say Girish was intrigued. This definitely was not Pathan, the seal on the envelope had confirmed that. Kartal.And how did that man dare send him a message in the ETF HQ. Girish knew that a certain 0701 in the most dismal parts of town belonged to Kartal. He had personally delivered a shipment of busted drugs to him. Well technically not to him, he had left them outside the red door. As he was told.

Flushing down the envelope and its contents, Girish plans to pay the man a visit. Yash was anyway going to send him to the Commissioner's office to submit a few files.

Presently as he slid inside his cabin, Girish felt every cell in his body wince.

Pathan had disappeared and so had his men.

There was no trace of any of them, he was informed.

Girish, on his way back had tried ringing Pathan only to be disappointed. Three things this visit has confirmed, he thought. One Pathan was possibly playing his own game. Two, Kartal didn't know about Pathan reaching the very spot ETF was supposed to. Three, ETF definitely didn't know Kartal. The sketch he was shown the other day, didn't in the least match the man he had met today. Kartal wanted him to find out Pathan. In 24 hours. With a little luck, he might as well dig out the lost treasures of the world. Finding Pathan would prove to be an uphill task

As Girish gulped down an entire glass of water, he recalls the proceedings of the morning.

(FLASHBACK)

He dashed out of the rest room and into Yash's cabin. As he enters, he notices the grim expression on the Second In Command's face.

"The raid was a failure" he states dryly. As soon as the words left his mouth, Yash saw a hint of happiness, only for a brief second. He smiled inwardly. And continued with a grim face, " Arjun is mad with rage. We need to get hold of this guy soon."

"Pardon my inquisitiveness, Sir, but what threat does this guy pose?"

"We're not sure yet, but word is that he has a big consignment of illegally acquired weapons that include bombs as well. Naturally, we want to eliminate the risk . But I also feel like we're overstepping our boundaries. I mean we don't really have a solid proof whatsoever. Just the word of a small time criminal. What do you say, Girish?" Yash asks.

" I think you're right sir. We can't take the word of a small street rat and possibly hope to dig gold. If there's really a threat, Kartal would've acted by now. There's no way someone with that big a consignment would wait about. "

" Exactly! I was trying to convince Arjun the same. " Yash said, playing along. " Arjun was wondering if this Kartal dude has been working with someone already in the field. Because Kartal is a relatively new name on the streets. It's impossible to have so much power in a short time. "

" It is impossible for Kartal to strike a partnership in a short time. He's only been here for what a year? With Sikandar dead there's only Pathan left around. And I don't think Pathan is brave enough. Not after what Arjun Sir did to him the last time. There's something off about this situation. Don't worry sir. We're probably just looking into things a bit too hard. " Girish tried to convince his boss.

" Let's hope we are" Yash states as he got up and handed him the files. He dropped them as his leg hit the table. Groaning he rubbed his hand over the leg while his junior bent down to pick up the files. Yash bends down to help him and whispered a quiet thank you. He puts his hand on the Head's shoulders as both of get up, the files between them.

As Girish turned to leave he saw Yash pick his phone up and about to leave the room. "Wish me the best of luck, man! I'm about to convince the most pig headed man in the universe that we're reading too much in between the lines. At this rate I'd be convincing Arjun more than I've convinced girls." Girish had laughed as they both exited the room.

(FLASHBACK ENDS)

Girish Solanki smirked as he realised how he had thrown Yash off the scent. The only real problem would be digging out the one leg cunning man.

Later, he would realise Pathan would be the least of his problems.

Arjun slammed the gun on the table, not before loading it fully. He cracked his and knuckles sat in front of the one legged crook.

Pathan looked at him, his bead like eyes shining in the scantily lit room. "Kya Baat Hai Arjun? Mujhse kuch puchna hai?" he asks, albeit a bit too innocently.

Arjun lets out a small laugh. "Nope. Is baar Mein tumhare liye khabar laaya hoon." Pathan straightened in his chair, what on Earth could this man possibly have discovered?

Arjun put his hands together, the finger tips touching and uttered one sentenced that made Pathan cower in his chair.

" Girish has confessed everything. "

Sweat lined Pathan's forehead as Arjun walked around the room, like a hyena ready to pounce on him anytime. The smirk on his face told him, that the chief wasn't lying. That stupid guy must've told everything. Mentally face-palming, Pathan began to think of ways he could forward the news to Kartal. But that seemed impossible right now, what with Girish being discovered as the mole.

Arjun walked around him in circles, his eyes not leaving the frustrated one leg man. He watched with a smirk on his face. Good! Let this loathsome man panic. With each passing moment, Arjun found he was enjoying the show of discomfort on the criminal's face. It took him everything not to kill this man then and there. How he wished he could break all his bones and pokes his evil eyes out, let his wail in pain till he begs for his death. But he knew better than that. Once this man would spew everything he wanted, nobody could save him.

Setting his face in a malicious smirk, Arjun enquires, "Kartal kaha hai?"

Pathan feigns ignorance and cross questions him, " Kon Kartal?".

The chief raised his eyebrows as if challenging the man's memory and asks, "Kamaal hai. Itni jaldi bhulgayi apne saathi ko."

"Mera koi saathi nahi hai. Pathan akele kaam karta tha, karta hai aur karta.....". He couldn't continue because Arjun spoke up. "Let me stop you right there Pathan. Karta tha pe hi ab full stop lagado. You're not walking out of this. We've begun operations to sieze your hideouts. And as per my calculations, woh tumhara Central Bank ke pass wala adde pe ab tak tala lag chuka hoga"

Horror strikes Pathan's face. Arjun wasn't bluffing. He had found out one of his crucial rabbit holes. With a snarl he was about to attack the officer but the handcuffs refrained any further moment.

Arjun laughs, malice dripping from his voice. "Ab Yaad aaya kon Kartal?" he asks, his trained eyes reading the shift of emotions on the former's face.

Silence followed. Arjun felt the monster in him wake up yet again but this time he suppressed it. He couldn't let his emotions get the best of him. He scours his memories for something to use as a bait against Pathan and smiles when he recollects something Sakshi had found out.

He walks out of the room only to return after a brief two minutes. He slammed a photograph on the table.

A loud gasp left Pathan's lips as his brain registers the slender face , the brown locks, the plump red lips and the mole beneath the left eye.

Jameela.

Riya had been going over an old report about The Eagles when she heard the cabin door open. Her eyes followed it and were surprised to land on the technical expert. Everyone in the core squad knew Arjun was interrogating Pathan and was not in his cabin. There was no probable reason Shree should be here since Arjun had forbidden everyone to update Riya on anything than that he'd say. There was only so much her brain could take.

"Asakta hoon?" Shree asks.

"Sure."

Shree walks upto her and sits beside her on the couch. He began fidgeting with his shirt and it was after a few minutes he spoke up. "I'm sorry." he says slowly. "I've disregarded our friendship. I'm not sure I should be called a friend anymore. Instead of being there for you, I just watched on in the background. I feel awful. I don't care if Liza is mad or whatever but I'm done putting one of the best bonds of my life behind me. I'm so so sorry Riya. "

Riya sighs and puts a comforting hand on his shoulder." Don't be sorry. Hota Hai. And waise bhi tumhe kya pata tha aisa kuch bhi hoga. It's alright. Waise bhi it wasn't as if I was alone. I'm okay. Please tum tension mat lo. "

Shree smiles and says," Haan woh bhi hai. Phir bhi I felt bad. You were walking around without that smile. Aisa lag raha tha ye hamari Riya hi nahi hai. To be honest I've never been more glad that Arjun Sir was around. "

Riya looks away, blushing.

" Waise, Ri, Arjun Sir ek cheez hamesha se sahi Kehte the "

Riya raises her eyebrows, inquiring about it.

" Laparwahi Ki bhi hadd hoti hai Riya. "

That elicited a laugh from the research specialist. Now that she had come to think of it, he was right. She'd do something that would land her in trouble all the time.

Only this time, this trouble threatened to wreck havoc in the entire city.

The night had fallen, the moon hid behind the clouds. Everything about this night made for a gloomy one.

As Arjun waited by the door for Riya, his mind wanders back to the conversation, albeit one sided, with Pathan. Jameela he had hissed. Something in the crook's eyes told Arjun that the lady in the photograph definitely meant something to Pathan. Sakshi's informers were right. They had formulated a plan to catch of Jameela the next day.

Riya reached to a stop before him and clicked her fingers. "Sir?!" she asks.

Arjuj jerked out of his thoughts and looks at her with smile. "Chalein?" he asks.

Riya smiles in response and the two of them make their way out of the building and into his car.

Once in, Riya snuggles into the seat. She felt tired, the feeling never seemed to go away. Arjun runs his hand over her face and kisses her forehead. Riya looks up and was met with a heart searing sight. He was staring intently in her eyes,his thumbs on her lips. He kisses her nose this time and says, "I can't live without you."

Riya didn't know how she was living until that moment. She didn't know life like this. Nor did she know a love like this. Having grown up on the overly exaggerated Bollywood movies she didn't think love would feel this way. Make her dizzy just at the sight of the man she loved. He didn't need romantic music to strike the chords of her heart, one look was enough.

She was grateful to have found a love that's as chaste as the word itself.

She turned towards him, and touched his jaw. He smiled at the touch and looked at her. He was about say something when..........

A minute later he could hear the screams fade away and the world slipping into darkness.

As he stared into the eyes of death, there was only one name on his lips.

Riya.

Darkness takes over and he fades into oblivion.

Shree honestly apologised to Riya and they patched up again

I was nicely reading Arjun and Riya's sweet moment when you dropped that bomb. Did Kartal show up or something? they finally decided to attack and get Riya, Arjun or not?
