Chapter 12:He unwillingly broke the kiss and glanced at his phone. Seeing Sameer's name spoiled their moment. He took the call and got to know about the new case.
After he finished the call he found Riya looking at him intently. He just smiled a bit sadly and said "humare love story start hui hi nahi aur rukawate shuru hogayi. Sachme gari chalegi kaise agar itne speed brakers ho?"
When he found Riya couldn't get a word he said. He chuckled and explained nicely "Areh, ACP Sahiba, case aya hai aur chief ne bulaya hai chale?"
Riya's face clearly showed the disappointment due to the sudden arrival of the new case. But what can she do after all duty calls first. She turned to leave when Arjun suddenly pulled her with a jerk and she landed in his arms.
He looked at her with a naughty glint in his eyes. He leaned towards her and lightly pecked her lips. Riya closed her eyes relishing the moment thoroughly.
She then heard him say "I love you Riya". She smiled and opened her eyes but he was gone till then. She hit her forehead and again smiled. This love thing is surely getting high at least on her.
She came down and found that everyone in the conference room stood there watching something. And when she came forward she knew what or who it was.
They were actually shocked seeing Arjun's condition. Bandage over his head and around his wrist. The effect of four sleeping pills was not yet over. And on top of that he had not recovered fully after the Sikander incident.
She herself would have been shocked if she had not visited Arjun the previous day. But he is way better than the condition she found him.
Yesterday when after repeated tries Arjun didn't pick up her phone she guessed something was wrong. And rushed to his house. And thank God that she reached there otherwise who knows that cut in the wrist could have ended Arjun's life.
Her thoughts broke when she heard him speak. His voice showcased his irritation "Tum mujhe case ke liye bulake aise katputli is tarah khare kyu rahte ho?"
Sameer somehow had lost his voice. He didn't know the reason though. It could be Arjun's present condition. Or the encounter with Riya last day. Or it can simply be the past.
When Ayesha saw him not responding she took the charge. She informed both of them about the case and their findings till now as they had missed it.
Soon after the discussions Sameer assigned everyone their work. And both Riya and Arjun chose their own portions. They except Sameer and Arjun went to complete their tasks. And were asked to meet at the crimes spot an hour later. So all left hurriedly.
Now only Sameer and Arjun were present in the conference room. Arjun was lost in the clue board and Sameer was lost in him.
To anyone else Sameer would look like an one sided 'ashique' to whom Arjun is not paying any attention. And if anyone knew about Riya then all would feel that Sameer is giving a stiff competition to her.
But jokes apart the atmosphere inside the conference room was quite tense. Sameer was genuinely worried about Arjun.
So without thinking what might be the outcome he called Arjun.
After hearing his name Arjun turned towards the source only to see Sam there. Yes Sam not Sameer or Rathore. Nowadays every time whenever he used to glance at ETF chief he could see his Sam there. But things were not same for him now. May be Sam has returned but Arjun is far away from his reach now.
So he turned around to face him. His expressionless face and void eyes did hurt Sameer a lot. But he composed himself and asked " Arjun, Kya haal bana rakha hai? Yeh bandages kyu lagai hai aur itni chote kaise lagi? Tum apna khyaal kyu nahi rakhte kabhi apni jaan ki fikar karliya karo? Apni na sahi unke baareme socho jo tumhare liye chinta kar rahe hai?"
"Tum subah subah mujhe ye updesh kyu de rahe ho?" Replied Arjun who was irritated to another level. But Sameer calmly replied "updesh nahi de raha hu. Sirf tumhari fikar ho rahi hai issiliye puch raha hu."
Arjun couldn't help but chuckle at his statement which surprised Sameer but what he said next shocked him.
"Tumhe fikar ho rahi hai? Toh kya hai woh fikar, ki pata nahi yeh admi zinda kaise bach gaya? Ya yeh ki Sikander ka kaam ho gaya hai to ab bhi yeh yaha kya kar raha hai? Tumhe koi fikar wikar nahi ho rahi hai. Tumhe bas takleef ho rahi hai ki main sahi salaamat tumhare saamne baitha hu."
Sameer's eyes welled up hearing Arjun's remarks but he again tried to persuade "Arjun please meri baat suno, aisa nahi hai."
But Arjun was not in mood to stop now so he continued "Aisa hi hai. Tum jante ho, tumhe iss baat ka zyada dukh nahi hai ki Roshni nahi rahi, balki iss baat ka gam hai ki main zinda bach gaya. Agar main bhi mar jata toh tumhe koi problem nahi hoti."
Sameer couldn't believe his ears or whatever he heard. His best friend was not believing him. His best friend, his brother from a different mother was accusing him for reasons which he himself didn't know. Now he understood what Arjun must have gone through during those years.
Sameer this time firmly retorted " Arjun aisa nahi hai. Tum galat samaj rahe ho."
He waited for Arjun's reply but in return Arjun walked up to him and stood close to him and directly looking into his eyes said "Acha?"
That seemed more like a mocking statement that a question. Sameer was speechless. This was the first time Arjun was answering him back. Earlier there verbal wars used to be one sided. And Arjun didn't used to say much. And if he said he just used to take his stand and never answer back Sameer. But this was something new.
Sameer couldn't look back into his eyes anymore so he looked down. Arjun got it as a signal and was going to walk out of the hall.
When he again heard Sameer say "I'm Sorry Arjun, jo kuch bhi hua, woh nahi hona chahiye tha. Har pal maine tumhara bharosa tora hai tumhe galat cheeso keliye doshi thairaya hai. Kabhi tumhara saath nahi diya. I know main maafi ke kaabil nahi hu. Par fir bhi dil mein ek umeed hai ki tum mujhe maaf kardoge. Kya mujhe ek akhri mauka milega?..."
He couldn't continue further as Arjun cut him off his track "Nahi, nahi milega. Yeh paheli baar toh nahi hai right? Isse pahle bhi hum is situation mein the. Haina? Tum har baar mujhe galat thairao, rishte tor do fir aake maafi mango. Yahi toh hota aya hai. Par ab aur nahi. Maine bhi maafi mangi thi Roshni ke jaane ke baad par tumne maaf kiya? Nahi nahi kiya. Fir tum yeh umeed bhi kaise karte ho? Sometimes forgiveness can't be given because sometimes there's no more forgiveness. Sameer yahi behtar hoga ki hamare beech sirf professional rishta rahe na tumhara mujse koi expectation rahega na mera tumse."
Saying this Arjun left the hall banging the door behind him as well as leaving a dejected friend behind him.
