The Iberian Peninsula was where it originated but died out eventually in the 15th century leading to what is now known as modern day Spanish (Iberian). Old Spanish is hardly used except by linguists to translate texts and to a spanish speaking person it sounds incorrect and makes us cringe, no matter where our language's roots came from.
