My dear Mushi,
This chapter was even more gut wrenching than the last one, and that had already made me feel sick to the pit of my stomach, as you would have seen from my comments.
A few more cases like these, and no girl would be able to trust any man ever again. And if this can happen to a police officer, what to say of ordinary girls? Of course not all men are this vile, this is a very small minority, but fear would drive out all faith and trust across the board, which would be very sad.
How did the goons get into her room? Once they managed that, the rest followed inevitably. Usually, in good hotels, they do not give the room numbers of their lady guests, but here of course Rohan was the main criminal, so they would not have had to even try to get the room number. But what about the key? I suppose they must have bribed a staff member to let them in, but this too should not happen in good hotels.
I had written about your chapter 5 that Neha should not have killed herself and visited such a tragedy on her parents, but should have fought the case if she felt up to it. Now I see that she
did fight, and the suicide was not due to her lack of guts, but because she discovered a betrayal far worse even than Rohan's, obviously by someone near and dear to her- dada is normally used in Maharashtra for an elder brother. It is this that destroyed her inside and out, and made it impossible for her to continue living. Terrible, but we will understand it when we learn who 'dada' was.
Lastly, as for the ghastly video, many college and even high school boys these days seem to be busy making MMSs of their close encounters with their girl friends, and often sharing them with their male friends and boasting about their 'conquests'. It is all ugly beyond the comprehension of old fogies like me. It seems to me that our old ways of being cautious about how we behaved with the opposite sex might have been wise after all.
Incidentally, since this chapter inevitably reminds one of the Delhi bus horror of last month, you and the others reading this post should see this article from the London Guardian on Jan 1, 2013.
It is revealing of how horrible things can be for women in all societies, and the contrast in the Indian public reaction to the Delhi horror and the local American reaction to what happened to that poor 16 year old is striking.

PS: I wish Neha had shot Rohan, and also some of the thugs in that other hotel room while she had the chance
