PART 1

Anuj's car had entered the parking lot minutes after Anupamaa's. Yes he had bought another car for Anupamaa and sent his trusted driver Manoj to be permanently with that car and he will self-drive to work.

As Anupamaa steps out of the back seat of her car, her eyes meet Anuj's who was at the driving seat of his car and some past memories flash before her eyes.

Over the past four months Paritosh's condition had worsened and he couldn't be kept home anymore. Devika recommended Ashiyana, an intensive care rehab about 50kms away from Amdavad and Rakhi took no time in getting Paritosh admitted there. They provided a guest house for the patient's relatives and Kinjal shifted there with Pari. While Leela tried very hard to push Anupamaa to shift there with Kinjal, she put a strong stand that she will do a back and forth everyday because she wants to have dinner with Anuj.

Two days later a car salesman was at their doorstep with keys for Anupamaa. "Mam Mr. Kapadiya booked a BMW for you which is the exact same model as his car". Manoj called out from behind, "Mam, Anuj sir has explained everything to me, a 50km back and forth drive everyday is not good for your health, I will take you to Ashiyana every morning and bring you back in the evenings" then he turns to the salesman and says, "Please give me the keys, I will check the car"

Anupamaa gives a slight smile and a nod and closes the door behind her, "But Anuj could have told that to me himself, right?"

Flashback ends. Anuj's eyes meet Anupamaa's but he immediately turns them away to collect his office briefcase from the car. Anupamaa keeps looking but he walks past her to the door and rings the bell.

Barkha opens the door and gives a gentle smile to Anuj which turns bigger when she sees Anupamaa coming behind him.

"OMG, you guys came in together today? That's so good. I have made Theplas after watching a YouTube tutorial, you must have been bored after eating my pasta and salads for so many days right? Do tell me how they are"

Anuj gives a careless grin "Must definitely be nice, everything made with love is nice, doesn't have to be perfect. I will just freshen up" and walks inside.

Barkha's face turns sad as Anuj walks past her. Anupamaa then comes up and Barkha holds her hands, "How are you, and how is Toshu?"

Anupamaa holds her hands back and says "All good bhabi, he is recovering, though he is still bed ridden. With me next to him during the day, Kinjal is able to attend video conferences now. Thank-you so much for taking care of everything behind me"

Barkha tries to be funny "Ah well, you know me, how can I work every, it's the servants doing things, I just order around"

Anupamaa chuckles with teary eyes, and Barkha continues "Thank god you smiled, I still regret not being careful that day else...."

Anupamaa stops her "Let it be bhabi, let's atleast have dinner"

As they walk to the kitchen Anupamaa asks "Any news from Ankush bhaiya?"

Barkha heavily replies "Yeah he is just drowning himself in work abroad, another good excuse for him to avoid me. Atleast Sarah had his company now. But really pains me to think of the day when he suddenly told me early in the morning that he is leaving to handle Anuj's partner projects because there is no point of continuing this charade anymore. If Anuj and Anupamaa couldn't make it, how do you expect us to..." she stops realizing she has said too much.

Anupamaa doesn't have an answer to it and Barkha changes the topic "Don't bother, just go freshen up, you have to review my theplas"

Anupamaa comes out of her room after changing and sees Anuj coming from a room opposite hers. They don't sleep in the same room anymore. Barkha looks at them one by one to her left and right and chirps out to ease the tension "Hot hot theplas, warning note, some of them may not be round"

The energy is not helpful, what follows is a silent dinner.

The next morning Anuj is gulping down his milk in haste and leaves his briefcase behind.

Anupamaa spots it while packing a lunch box with soup for Paritosh and sandwiches for Kinjal after Anuj has left. She calls Manoj,

"Can you hand it over to Anuj and then drop me?"

"Of course, Mam"

Manoj takes the briefcase but clicks on the clasp by mistake. All the papers get scattered.

"Ah Manoj ji, wait let me gather these, you might mix them up"

She starts picking the papers and sorting them.

Meanwhile she spots 5 boarding passes, all for early morning flights to Mumbai for Sundays for the past 5 weeks. She looks at them and flips them to see something that leaves her teary eyed.

On backs of the boarding passes were pen sketches, one of them were of four people with words written on the bottom, Maaya, Papa, Choti, Mummy.

Part 2

Anupamaa comes to the kitchen to pack tiffin and sees Barkha having coffee.

A: "Bhabi you are up so early?"

B: "Yeah, I heard some clanking in the kitchen and came to check, found Anuj making chocolate milk for himself so helped him out"

Anupamaa looks around hoping to get a glimpse of Anuj, she hadn't seen him properly since she started shuttling to take care of Paritosh except at the dinner table.

A: "I don't see him, did he go back to sleep?"

B: "No he went to office"

A: "On a Sunday?"

B: "Yeah even I was surprised. But he said he has some pending items so he will be going to office on a Sunday as well"

Anupamaa thinks to herself "Now you don't even want to be at home because Choti's absence haunts you so much. I wish I could bring back our happy moments"

End of flashback.

Anupamaa realizes that on Sundays Anuj had been going to Mumbai instead of his office. Today was a Sunday too.

"Mam shall I take the briefcase to office?"

Anupamaa's trance breaks with Manoj's voice. She knew Anuj wouldn't be at office so Manoj wouldn't find him there.

"Leave it, I realized he left it because he didn't need it today. I will come in a few mins, take me to the hospital"

At Mumbai,

We see Anuj standing in queue at McDonalds waiting for his order.

"Papa!!"

Anuj turns back and has a teary smile on his face. Choti runs into his arms and he picks her up and has a long hug which he just didn't want to end.

"Sir your order for Cheesy Paneer burger and a chocolate softy is ready"

The barista's voice makes him look back, he puts Choti down and takes the tray. They walk and sit at a corner table.

A: "Maaya doesn't doubt us yet right?"

C: "No Papa, as usual I told her I am going to Ananya's house to play. But I don't like lying to her, she is so sweet. Why did you do that Papa?"

A: "I am sorry beta, I couldn't deal with meeting you just once a month, which is why I came to your school to take you out without asking Maaya"

C: "But that was wrong na Papa, now Maaya doesn't even allow me to video call you. She was so worried, she thought some bad uncles took me away to hurt her, now she wants to leave Mumbai"

A: "I am so so so sorry Choti, but I cannot lose you. I will do everything possible to make her stop. Also I am so thankful to Mrs. Verma and Ananya to cover for you meeting me and they even let you call me from their phone. Now can we start today's drawing?"

C: "Yes, yesterday I went to the building kids play area with Maaya and we went on swings, I will draw it for you"

Anuj gives her today's boarding pass and watches her with glee as Choti proceeds with her amateur drawing.

Meanwhile at a distance we see Mrs. Verma waiting outside for Choti while a hand lands on her shoulder.

"Oh Maaya, thank god you are here."

M: "Thank you so much for helping with Anu's little game without her knowing that you have told me this"

Mrs. V: "Of course Maaya, but I wouldn't have done this if you had not told me to. How can I let a child meet an unknown man you see. Anyways, don't worry, I will drop her home like every Sunday"

Maaya thanks Mrs. Verma and looks at Anuj and Choti playing from the cafe window.

"I am sorry Anuj for doing this, but Choti needs a father and I cannot trust any other man anymore. This fear of seperation from Choti will make you realize how much you need her and that you cannot have her without me. Maybe then we can be a real family. For now I have to let this charade continue so that your hope of being with Choti and the fear of losing her both can keep burning in your heart"

She then turns to leave.

Back at Ashiyana, Kinjal and Anupamaa are having a conversation,

K: "But how can Anuj do this Mummy? Meeting Choti without telling you?"

A: "Yes even I am deeply hurt, but look at this" shows her the sketches "He is right, I have all of you with me, but he only has these drawings, I can't gather courage to seperate it from him. Give them to me, I have to put these back to Anuj's briefcase before he finds them missing"

The intercom rings and Anupamaa and Kinjal go out to meet Paritosh's doctor.

Meanwhile Vanraj who was babysitting Pari outside enters the room and sees the boarding pass sketches. He picks up the sketch with the four people and covers Maaya, Anuj and Choti with his hand and speaks to the sketch of Anupamaa,

"Life is giving me another chance to fix my family, Choti is gone and Anuj is evading from you. I will have to ensure that this distance stays put. You belong with our kids at Shah house, I will do anything to make my family happy again" he smirks and the scene ends

I liked it.

I am amazed at how you have kept the characters in their real element (as portrayed in the show) and still kept the difference between their shitty writing and yours awesome one👍🏼

Really good ideas, you've got there! The essence of each characters is retained, however you've taken this in a direction with a lot of interesting possibilities - I liked the ambiguous ending too!

Do you usually write fictional stories? I've noticed a lot of your posts appear well-structured and well-researched with a lot of thought behind it.

Thanks a lot, I wanted to use Hindi dialogues but preferred English as it will be easier for most to understand.

I also used to appreciate the show's original writing a lot, before it became stale and repetitive.

Yes I had drafted a 15 episode full fledged fan fic around Chavvi's show Ek Boond Ishq but couldn't materialize it because of my exams. I also write on Quora but I haven't written much recently.
